I don’t get why other global leaders keep indulging this guy. What’s the point of spending all that time negotiating trade deals if every day he wakes up dreaming of new tariffs

Decent chance we lose FDI or the companies already here reduce operations or move the IP somewhere else.

We’ve fuck all to show for the surpluses. Bertie was a crook but at least during his tenure we built shit and developed infrastructure, housing and we’re able to provide the basics for the population in general. Cowen was crisis mode so while I think he’s a big part of our exposure to the crash im not sure how to assess his time as taoiseach. The governments since though have been a disaster imo, we’ll look back on the period from 2013 to at least now as a period where FF and FG protected one section of society by turning a large portion of a generation into permanent tennents and then used that crisis as an excuse to funnel money into anyone who managed to get a rental property during the tiger era.

Its weird because you’ll have these mad FG and FF heads who take party allegiance like following a sports team or religion in that it is passed down and the current parliamentary parties have absolutely trashed their base by ringfencing opportunities. Neither party has been cultivating vote in the cohort that hadn’t been able to benefit from the boom and as that line gets older the younger voters aren’t supporting them. Even people getting on the property ladder by and large recognise that under previous governments they would likely have been able to achieve that a number of years earlier.

Another example of the generational issue is the pension fund being raided without the pension age going up. Now that enough of their base are beyond pension age they are willing to increase the age of it. That should be done now but it should also have been 2 decades ago. You’ll get the same people who complained about fairness when the pension age was raised as an issue back around the crash will not accept a two step pension now if offered.

    4. Europe has bene far too cosy with the US for far too long. They’re a volatile country & frankly we should be looking east to India & China for trade.

Another Von Der Leyen masterclass. China played hardball, and came out on top. Even the UK got a better deal than the EU. This was an opportunity to flex that we have one of the largest markets on earth, with high value industrial, agricultural and technological products the entire world wants to buy. We should’ve been pivoting hard towards Asia and cutting the ridiculous hostility with China the day this guy got elected. Now look at us, once again getting fucked by our “major ally and partner”. Our useless commission chief, giving speeches about how we treated the US “unfairly” and vindicating the cunt’s WRONG rhetoric. Accepting a “deal” where we open our markets to their low standards produce, while they slap tariffs on ours. Play lapdog to this US admin, and get kicked around for the pleasure. Thanks Ursula, bang up job!

The man is clearly a pedophile and this is a person the EU are treating with kid gloves

As a french i dont understand. You made ireland as a tax haven. Elected ff and fg, to keep business as usual. Having a free trade with the usa etc. Then complaining that the comission, lobbied by ireland germany etc(exporters). Did a deal to smoothe tariffs? When it would have devasted ireland, like youre at the forefront of the tariff wars. Like how many are willing to stand up to trump and loose the big us corps?
