It’s gas everyone on here thinks they know best. The metrolink is an unnecessary waste of money. Far better uses of that cash to improve public transport around Dublin

How anybody can think that a train that people have to travel to first is going to be used more than a fully automated car that will come pick you up and drop you at the airport no matter where you live is baffling!

Is this the third or the fourth article that the Irish Times have gotten out of publishing a load of nonsense written by some old cunt?

I listened to O Leary’s radio interview and it was weird in the sense of, was he being disingenuous or did he truly believe the the metro was purely to serve the airport. We know he’s bit of a prick (to put it lightly) but he’s not an idiot. So why would he say this?

To come across as ranting and raving on national radio I just get it or is there some ulterior motive? Or am I reading too much into this, again it just has me confused.

God what a horrendous headline… Is it supposed to be a surprise that rich people can be stupid?

Rich people increasingly out of touch with the common man recent study finds.

When you spend your entire career at the top of pyramids, where everyone essentially hangs on your word and diktat, it’s no wonder people like the above start to believe their every utterance has value or credibility. It just doesn’t occur to them that they haven’t the first bloody clue about something and should maybe defer to experts, or those in the field. Would be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes envy that bullet-proof sense of confidence in your own opinions.

The issue with the metrolink is that it doesn’t go to Heuston Station and only one line is planned.

It needs to be a network planned out in advance.

Metro linking the city to Swords should be the main prioritised reason as it alleviates a lot of pressure in terms of traffic, commute time and allowing Swords to be a more viable place to live for those working in the city.

I do wonder if it’s actually necessary for the metro to reach St Stephen’s Green and Charlemont. Both parts serviced by the Luas line and a changeover by passengers can occur at the proposed Collins st station. Potential for billions to be saved there.

The proposed route from Ballymun and Fostertown station possibly can go over-ground too. Billions of euro and time can be saved by avoiding going underground for that part.
