Seems a bit odd to imitate the animal protein that has the lowest carbon footprint.

I expect high end free range chicken eggs are cheaper, taste better and are more nutritious. Whilst the chickens still have a decent life.

Replicating the taste and flavor of beef or lamb, or pork might be better for the environment and animal cruelty.

      Oh yea,
‘round these parts we call plant eggs “seeds”

***”It has 99% of the plant-based egg market […] it’s one of the fastest-growing egg brands out there.”***

It’s hardly surprising, really. I dont see it being a very saturated market.

I’ll stick to proper sources of protein. Thank you. The sick lame and lazy can keep their frankenstein food.

The article asks what’s in it, then says it’s just plant based. Which doesn’t give much of an answer! Great for those allergic to eggs I suppose and people who don’t want to eat eggs, but personally I’ll stick to real ones for now.

The only thing they show in the video or any of the pictures are cartons of ?a liquid and then a rather anaemic looking scramble, which I’m assuming is supposed to be composed of plant ‘egg’. It looks like an ultra-processed yellow liquid that congeals into scramble/omelette texture, which seems most likely.

I don’t see the point of labelling this as ‘fake egg’ when it only mimics scramble and doesn’t behave like an egg at all otherwise, why not call it bean scramble? In any case, there are so many delicious non-UPF things you can eat, I’m unsure what the market will be for this stuff.

The website is oddly light on the ingredients list (I couldn’t obviously find them on their site anyway) and the article says ‘But what’s in it?’ without actually saying what is in it (!!) – but results from google suggest this is the contents: ‘*Water, Mung Bean Protein Isolate, Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Contains less than 2% of Dehydrated Onion, Gellan Gum, Natural Carrot Extractives (color), Natural Flavors, Natural Turmeric Extractives (color), Potassium Citrate, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Sugar, Tapioca Syrup, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Transglutaminase, Nisin (preservative). (Contains soy.)*’

Yeah I will be skipping this like all plant based alternatives

If you don’t want to eat eggs and meat them why create things that look and taste like meat and eggs? I’m all for people doing what they want, but surely the natural products of meat and eggs is much healthier for you than stuff that has a million synthetic ingredients in it to make it an imitation?

Edit: jeez I was just asking guys, I wasn’t being obtuse 😂

    8. Doesn’t matter what’s in it, it’s a highly processed food and we don’t have enough longitudinal data to say how harmful it might be in the long term.

Remember the push for plant based alternatives to butter, aka margarine because it was ‘healthier’?

      >The truth is, there never was any good evidence that using margarine instead of butter cut the chances of having a heart attack or developing heart disease. Making the switch was a well-intentioned guess, given that margarine had less saturated fat than butter, but it overlooked the dangers of trans fats.

Is it, like all other vegan alternatives, grossly overpriced versus the “real” equivalent?

    10. AlwaysCreamCrackered on

A company called Just Egg not selling just eggs? It sounds crazy but I’m omeletteing this one go.

    11. Stunning_Owl5063 on

Just eat fruit and veg, so much better than this weird imitation slop.

I’m not sure replacing a “locally” laid egg, with a highly processed substitute that requires ingredients shipped across the planet, is better for the environment.

    13. Alternative_Try_5888 on

It repeated the same 2 or 3 lines over and over again and completely glosses over the actual important information? Are these healthy? What are the macros, compared to regular eggs? What about additives and preservatives?

If it’s a healthy option I would definitely consider trying it. It’s a lot more expensive than regular eggs so it isn’t going to be a permanent replacement. But I’m not opposed to trying it

People saying cholesterol is such a bad thing need to realise we need it in our diet as it gets converted into Vitamin D, probably the most important vitamin for your immune system.

Vegan diet is just not good for the body. We are meant to eat animals

    15. ConkerBlaze on

The mass market Vegan food aimed at people who want to be vegan and not change their diet is awful. It’s heavily processed and has little nutritional value.
Home cooked vegetarian food is really good, done right vegetables can be very tasty and highly nutritious.
To me being vegan is a lifestyle choice and wouldn’t exist as a form of sustenance if we weren’t living in an advance industrialised economy
Funny how it’s called just egg and there’s absolutely no egg in it. No cholesterol isn’t something to shout about, you need it to make hormones.

    16. There is fake meat, fake news, fake politicians and now fake eggs. OMG I just want to have real meat and real eggs and real people.

    17. FireHo57 on

Are big egg going to come along and tell them they can’t use the word egg?

    18. DropDeadDigsy on

What if the chicken crossed the road? Can I eat the egg then?

    19. Potential_Cover1206 on

So, a deeply unheated ultra processed food is being touted as a good food source for people too stupid to realise the human species is not built to run on just vegetables….

    20. Unable_Flamingo_9774 on

Can we just make original vegan food rather than trying to imitate what already exists? It’s artificially made, you can make it taste like anything!

Get creative, make something you can’t get naturally, give me a reason to eat it and not a bacon sarnie.

    21. prettybunbun on

All the complainers in here lol, are any of you actual vegans? I am and this is great! eggs are one of the few things there isn’t an imitation for, though tofu scramble is very good.

I don’t understand people being upset over a new product that might encourage more people not to take part in animal cruelty but otherwise is for vegans already who want to eat eggs but not take part in it.

    22. prettybunbun on

What kill me is meat eaters expect vegans to eat only fruit and veg cause for some reason we’re not allowed?? alternatives. Idk why but this huge backlash against alternatives (many of which are not as bad as the meat industry wants you to think) is crazy to me. I’m vegan i’m healthy I do not want to live on vegetables, stuff like this is great for me but meat eaters hate it cause ??

    23. Satoshiman256 on

It’s not an egg then is it? Just some processed shit.

    24. MoMxPhotos on

For me as a meat / dairy / egg lover, I love them all soo soo much, but, due to health conditions, meat and dairy and eggs do not love me back, they hate me with a passion and make my body hurt a hell of a lot.

      1 carton = 6 medium eggs

£3.99 for a pack, if a pack is 1 carton then it’s well and truly over priced,

£1.75 Tesco Free Range Eggs Medium 6 Pack

So, if any company can make an alternative either at the same price or cheaper then I’m happy to give it a try, but I refuse to pay more for it, rather just stay vegetarian and enjoy my rice / pasta and curries with mixed veggies and stuff.

    25. b3n_ja_m1n on

How is it the first? I’ve definitely already seen vegan egg alternatives in the supermarket for ages??

Dont eat this poison dont accept this poison. Eat real unprocessed meat from your local butcher and free range organic eggs and you won’t ever need the NHS
