Did he not know his mate had been drinking? Drink-driving is unforgivable but you do have to bear some responsibility if you choose to get into the car of someone who you know has been drinking too.

People say “why did he get in a drunk mates car?” Like we didn’t all do really stupid shit at 18 years old.

Sounds more like the driver was a fucking idiot who was driving way beyond his limit, and the drink had little to do with it. I loathe drink driving with a passion, but given (as others have pointed out) he was below the legal limit for England and likely had just one pint, it doesn’t seem like that was a major factor here.

I do wonder with awful injuries like this though, especially in someone young, whether things like stem cell technology will mean they can re-grow limbs. Or artificial limbs will become so advanced there’s no tangible difference. People paralysed due to spinal cord damage, something that would previously have been for life, are now walking again thanks to advances in stem cell medicine. It is quite astounding stuff and developing rapidly.
