      >His remarks came two days after US President Donald Trump threatened to hit the EU with a 35% tariff if the bloc failed to deliver on its commitment to invest $600 billion in US infrastructure over the next three and a half years of Trump’s presidential term.

Doesn’t matter what the fine print says.

You can bet that Trump is gonna come back in a few weeks or months and say the EU backstabbed him and start another round of threats and tariffs.

Leyen shouldn’t have sold out, because now the Americans are gonna come back for more. They know the EU’s weak. Plus the EU doesn’t *have* the kind of money they’re looking for. Not without several countries in it going bankrupt.

What is rhis backpaddling from EU? Ursula trying to save her ass?

I think when Trump is done with Ukraine, he  will return to his favorite pastime –  humiliating Europe to get more money.

A reminder not to count their chickens before they’ve hatched ahead of what Trump hopes (but Putin doubts) will be limited ceasefire negotiations?

But we are going to sent it anyway, plus a few extra to make it 2 trillion.

Either that or trying to agree which EU countries will get the investment. So giving money to the US it is.

The EU is like having 27 kids fighting for a toy. In the end everyone gets a slap and the toy is donated to the US.

      I read the comments..

I don’t understand people who defend VDL.

Not especially since she “accidentally deleted” the conversations with Pfizer and since politicians are pushing the story about some kind of censorship of the Internet and messages in Europe.

Furthermore, if she doesn’t have the right to make agreements herself, but the other member states have to ratify them, then why did she go to negotiations with Trump?

what is the point of agreeing on something and then having each member ratify it separately? isn’t it better for the member states to agree first and then go to negotiations?

i don’t see any benefit from the vdl and the team around it for the eu

Many people in Europe are naive. Those who trust politicians are not really all their own.

Trump is there to trample you like nothing if you continue like this, and China and Russia are just waiting for their turn to do it too.

It was totally just a number to make Trump get off our backs. And Trump strait up doesn’t understand we can’t simply force private company investments

If Trump reads this, seriously, it could start more bad things happening between the EU and the US. Never underestimate the power of social media with the Trump regime.

And always remember, every move VD Leyen makes isn’t to please Trump (even if it happens to coincidentally). She is working on behalf of European corporate interests who are trying to maintain profits and jobs amidst the tariff fiasco.

If the only “obligation” USA has to EU, NATO and Ukraine is to sell weapons for full price, EU has no obligations towards USA. We could even set up tariffs against whatever we want to handle ourselves, or that damages our population, like fast food and social media.

The only reason USA is now urging EU to stop buying Russian fossil fuel via India etc is because USA wants to sell that fossil fuel.

There’s no moral to learn here. It’s just extortion.

No matter how you phrase this, our decision makers sold the EU out to America, to a raging toddler who will come back demanding more money.

    12. If it’s not binding, why would they promise this? It’s really spineless. As a huge EU enthusiast, this whole situation feels really embarrassing.

What are they even thinking? This is one of the strongest trading blocs in the world, we don’t need to bow to the USA and whatever retard is ruling that country.

It sickens me to my bones.
