      If pepper spray is considered a firearm in Irish law, then I’d say he was armed.

      Rather than dismissing this and saying it’s his job, tackling someone armed with what appears to be gun and a knife, even with pepper spray, a baton and training, is life-threatening or at least dangerous.

      He could have waited for armed backup or additional support but chose to act alone to protect the people and staff in the shop who were being threatened. That decision carried personal risk. So fair play.
