      It’s also one of the most recognizable expressions of Portuguese culture, found in many Portuguese-speaking cities around the world. The famous Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro features an extensive stretch of calçada portuguesa, and in Florianópolis, where I used to live, it’s a common sight throughout the city.

      Indeed, it looks great, is incredibly versatile, bends before breaking, lets rainwater flow through and is super easy to repair. But it’s not the best if you want to wear high heels and wear slippery shoes, so obviously some morons want to replace it with naked concrete “like London and Paris”.

      Almost every pavement is hand made … the only automation is in the form of a help go lay it up faster …

      Why would anyone wear slippery shoes??? That’s the opposite of what shoes are for!
