      Great, Simon Harris is going to spend loads of time increasing his blood pressure with outrage now.

      I don’t agree with Tóibín’s politics at all, but he’s not wrong about Harris: “he promised in 2017 that no child would be left waiting for longer than four months for scoliosis surgery – that’s a promise he failed to keep”.

      Simon’s probably going to focus on Tóibín’s politics now though with sneery takes instead of being accountable for outrageous failures he’s stood over as a minister.

      Could be wrong, but I think the day that little boy died, Harris was busy posting selfies at some wedding,he’ll probably squirm his way out of this controversy like he did when he walked away from the care worker during his the election campaign, he’s useless and so far up his own hole.

      Very sad case in a country with such wealth. We’ve lost so much that made Ireland great.

      If Simon Harris had any shame, he would resign.

      And the people who continually vote for him should be ashamed themselves.

      As long as the property prices in Greystones are protected, that’s all that matters.

      This has been trending on Twitter for nearly 2 weeks. It’s great that it finally reached RTE. It will probably be the only thing that could bring even a modicum of justice to that poor family.

      I dislike coveny for a host of reasons, but can’t believe how FG have ended up with Harris as their party leader. He’s absolutely dreadful, and I just can’t fathom how on earth he has climbed that ladder.

      I mentioned in another thread that Harris made a promise that he was unable to keep. He should never have made it.
      The issues here are not really with Harris, but the dysfunction within CHI and a host of other government agencies and departments.
      Maybe its dawning on people that our elected rep have little power and say in many things.

      I don’t like most of Toibin’s right wing politics. But to be fair to the guy he is one of the few in the Dail who seems to fight for people. He’s not wrong about Harris being an utter failure. If he resigned in the morning I doubt anyone would notice his absence.

      They’ll be frantically searching for a similar case in the North for a bit of whataboutery and somehow convince us that it’s all Sinn Fein’s fault.

      how long can the ruling class of this country continue to allow poor and disabled people to needlessly suffer and die before it starts to smell of stochastic eugenics?

      when you see poverty as a moral failing (as our ruling class clearly does) it’s very very easy to dehumanize the poor (as our ruling class demonstrably does) and hold the belief that society would be better off without poor people (which i think is clearly the attitude among the ruling class) and it’s easier to eliminate poverty by allowing poor people to die off than by equalizing society (which would have a detrimental financial effect on the ruling class)

      this “representative democracy” that’s given so much blind faith represents the interests only of those who use it as a path to power. this government, this *system*, does not protect the interests or safety of the people it purports to “represent” – especially not the most vulnerable in society, the least represented who need protection and nurturing.

      This issue has been dragging on far too long. The reality is Harris as minister promised to fix this a few years ago, failed to do so, and children are still waiting to their detriment.

      I’m not sure it’s right or fair to pin the tragic death of this young boy on Harris alone, but himself and successive ministers have undeniably failed children and their families.

      In a country supposedly awash with corporate receipts, they really should be throwing money at this and find consultants from abroad. If, for example, the government could find accommodation solutions for 100k Ukrainians and international protection applicants, it should be able to move the needle here more effectively
