    1. By god we love a review here.

Most looking forward to the review in a few years on why we review things so much to the point everything takes 20 years. Followed closely by a review of the aforementioned review on reviews.

The only thing we should be reviewing is how many times more infrastructure we should be building than what we’re currently even _planning_.

      > However, the Department of Transport said at the time that the National Development Plan (NDP), which covers large-scale State transport investment, was “under review by the Department of Public Expenditure”, effectively making the Dart plan subject to another review.
The NDP was published in June. This week, the department said it was now “reviewing key programmes and projects in the transport sector in the context of that capital funding”, including Dart replacement. A spokeswoman said a decision would be made “in the coming months.”

What? Why does the new review need to happen just because a new NDP was published. Even if it’s a formality it’s nonsense as it delays by a few months.

Can we not get new ones and keep older ones to increase capacity.

Most European cities have mixture of new and ancient carriages.

Is there anything to be said for another review?

Reviews, consultations … will anything ever get done in this shitfuck of a country

Most of us are happy with the reviews and additional scrutiny.

Upon a heads up, this article comes off a little iffy:

IrishCycle reported on this a few weeks ago. Basically, it’s been approved by Irish Rail and the NTA but the Department are waiting to finalise their NDP allocations before signing off.

      Source: https://irishcycle.com/2025/07/10/order-for-dart-trains-approved-but-then-stalled-putting-rail-expansion-in-dublin-cork-and-limerick-at-risk-says-user-group/

Basically, reviews slow everything down. Stop reviewing.

We’re living in a hyper cautious hellscape where people need to conduct this shit in order to justify their shite work. The trains aren’t just needed for fleet renewal but for the expansion of the network to Drogheda, Docklands, Heuston, Glasnevin, M3 Parkway, Maynooth and Hazelhatch.

All those projects are currently in various stages of progress – and they’ll need the trains in order to be able to run the DART services. Why is it being reviewed?

Ah, good aul Ireland…forever a banana republic. Pennywise and pound foolish.

The amount of public funds wasted on bicycle shelters, vanity projects, and overpriced public buildings is just staggering. The waste of taxpayer money is only outweighed by the absolute incompetence of these politicians.

They simply can not make the correlation between strategic infrastructure investment and the economic growth of the country.

You build a better network of transport, you have a more powerful base for attracting industry, talented people, retaining our own people, and allowing people to live in affordable areas outside Dublin thus freeing up valuable housing stock in Dublin.

But we keep allowing them to be this way…

    12. TiberiusTheFish on

We all roll our eyes at another bloody review but we go ballistic if there’s any hint of a cost overrun or an issue with the specs or the contract. We can’t have it both ways.

    13. Satur9es on

Reviews are great because it differs anybody having to be responsible for making a decision. It’s real smart. That’s why we pay these guys so much.

      Bit of misleading headline.
The process is already underway, new DARTs have arrived, they’re being tested
