Isn’t it extremely difficult to find a correlation between these units?
Losing the sugarbeet industry was probably no help. Coal, turf etc in decline too I expect
Better motorways from about 2007, some freight has moved to road, I suppose.
Local question becomes, if freight is in decline, and they would be operating on the same tracks, why aren’t we just converting them to passenger routes, even if they are regional, etc

You can see a step in 2002 when the ammonia trains stopped running. I wonder what the big drop in 2005/06 was.
