Fish and chips requires a mortgage these days. While i don’t condone the action I can understand the anger in the moment.

The last time I went to Whitby, a seagull dive bombed for my burger and caused my friend to lose hers.
I’m not scummy though, so I didn’t feel the need to kill it. I just ran like a wuss.

Very wrong but understandble. Those fuckers stole 10 euro worth of chips from me once.

Given the price of fish & chips in some seaside towns and the current mental climate of feeling like you’re just being beaten down at every turn with nothing good to look forward to, I can understand why this might be the last straw for someone.
Especially if the gulls are getting brazen enough to steal your meal right out of your hand.

He picked up the baby gull after kicking it it and smashed it on a bin, and there he left it to gradually succumb to its injuries.
I have seldom heard of such a bizarre, heinous act of animal cruelty. And over a bloody fish? Appalling.
There are people in the comments saying this was ‘understandable’. Shame on you.

I am surprised the gull didn’t kick him back, judging by the size of some of the buggers these days.

So horrible.
Yes it’s annoying when animals steal food, poo everywhere, rip into bin bags etc, but I can’t imagine beating an animal out of vengeance.
The seagull isn’t trying to slight anyone, it’s just exploiting an easy food source, as is its nature.
Idk if it’s the same birds, but for a couple years in a row now there have been a pair of seagulls nesting on a derelict building on our street, and my kids and I enjoyed looking to see if the chick was out walking round on the roof, they seem to be attentive parents. 🙁

Isn’t the problem that the seagulls know that they won’t be harmed? They’re basically being selectively bred to become chippy theives.
It’s a horrible idea, but clearly the evolutionary calculus needs to be altered to make seagulls go back to doing what they did before chip shop chips were their main diet. I don’t think that should involve mass kicking of seagulls to death though.

To be fair, those flying rats are part and parcel of the challenge with a chippy. He should have known they’d swoop on in for the chance when presented.

This is almost the perfect, platonic Daily Mail headline. It just needs “… by an immigrant” at the end.

I’m sorry but having lived in cities with prevalent seagulls and at the seaside, they’re pests and cause so much littering by eating through bins that are due to be collected, or interfering with people trying to enjoy a meal. I don’t condone it, but I don’t care for a dead seagull either

The amount of people on this post that are so lazily ignorant is genuinely depressing.
We are selling, polluting and removing so many natural areas for all wildlife in this country. We are culling the natural prey of seagulls left right and centre for our own greed. We are filling what’s left with plastics and litter. We are overfilling bins and dropping our waste everywhere, and yet somehow we blame the SEAGULLS for adapting to this. Somehow we blame the foxes for performing the exact same behaviour as above.
I can only assume that the majority of absolute nutters in this post who sympathise with the piece of shit who went out of his way to kill a wild animal for the sake of his luxury of a chippy would only be happy if any and all wildlife that inconveniences them next would disappear.
Humans are a plague and the fact that there’s people here saying this is a GOOD THING because ‘generations of seagulls will learn not to do this to us if this happens!’ Just screams how genuinely stupid humans can be. It’s not even difficult and requires no effort for people to educate themselves but they’d much rather live their limited lives in ignorant bubbles.

I’m sure I’ve seen more stories like this in recent years. Call me crazy but I think it speaks to a larger issue, this is a very angry country at present and this is just one example of it coming out

Not saying I agree with what he did, but I can empathise – to some degree. Seagulls are large and can be incredibly aggressive. When you have to live with them constantly nesting on your house and being so aggressively protective of their young that you get dive bombed every time you want to leave your house, you can’t enjoy being in your garden on a nice day – I can understand the frustration.

If they do this often enough the seagulls will learn to do preemptive strikes. A war with seagulls is not something we can prepare for.

Bit over the top, but understandable. Real cause is vermin being given protected statuses, stopping councils from controlling their populations.

Humans made seagulls the way they are today. We have always been the problem, not animals.
Truly we are a cancer to this planet.

If there were rats in your cupboard stealing your food you’d put out poison or a mousetrap. A seagull is a pest just the same.
And one stole my sandwich yesterday so maybe im biased

So cruel. I went to st Ives and got totally pecked on the head as I was trying to eat an ice cream and it really hurt. My reaction was to shout piss off, get attacked and run for cover. This person was unbelievably cruel and nasty

Curly hair? Do we have any more details about the person who did this despicable act?

Animal cruelty honestly pains. Attacking amongst the most defenseless of creatures! The nerve.
