Honestly I don’t think it’s that grim. Most watches sold are high end, someone who can afford a patek philippe or a rolex can pay more for the watch, and/or they’ll acquire their watch in another country since it’s a consumer good easy to transport and to declare as used at the border.

      Pharma is not affected atm.

Cheese sales to the US are marginal.

The 20% dependence on the US is biased by the gold reshippements as the bars are recast but this industry adds very little value in Switzerland.

The one sector that is likely to suffer and we should support due to its importance is machinery and instrumentation, since substitutes to those exist.

Watches: not a problem. In the age of smartwatches, if people are buying a $10-250k watch, it’s not because they’re looking to get a good deal (or good watch), it’s because they’re hoping the object on their wrist gets noticed. Paying extra for ancient technology to tick seconds on your wrist should make sales go up in the pick me crowd, I would hope.

Chocolate: we’re going to have to find new markets.

I still remember Swiss Trump enthusiasts telling me that Trump won’t put tariffs on them because it’s too small of a target, and because he’s a reasonable guy.

      😆

They are not our friends and they abuse their economic power. We should all keep that in mind from now on, especially after they place a new president that pretends to be a friend again but doesn’t remove tariffs.

    7. The right and the army will fight all they can to buy these, they probably have many lobby friends who would be very angry if it’s not the case. All we can do is vote properly in the next elections but that would require people to look up which party is behind what decisions and protecting whose interests.

So what ? Swiss journalists are after that like if it the story of their life. Russia has been slapped with 200% tariffs and they just used jump trade. Traders are one of Swiss special, don’t tell me nobody knows how to resell stuff to the US trough AE or EU… They have to stop crying like babies, close all comms with Trump, turn to APAC.

      Dont know why people care.

American’s will just have to pay more. Sucks to be them.

This isn’t going to effect 99.9% of people living in Switzerland. Life goes on as normal.

So I have commented before in this kind of post and I starting to think that there is a bias toward trump on Reddit for this bullshit.

No, the tariffs only effect a small part of swiss industry, no you can’t make most of the stuff in USA that the swiss make.
No swiss don’t pay the tariffs you Americans pay tariffs.

It’s a horrific lie that keeps reoccurring, the truth is the us people ar the ones who will pay the tariffs.

Why is the tech sector warning for industries that are not tech?
