Australia? Isn’t it in the middle of an insane housing crisis? Japan is probably the only $1 trillion economy that actually has a very high quality of life despite its stagnation (relatively low rent even in central Tokyo due to high housing supply and loose zoning laws, free healthcare, very low crime rates, and so on).

I wish our population (NL) could appreciate this more. Of course it could always be better, but it’s not even half as bad as some people make it seem

-You have excellent quality of life! – Yes, but I’m worried because we are not in the $1 trillion economy club. – Oh shit, I’m sorry.

WTF? Australia, Canada? Or you mean just in EU? And arguably quality of life in Spain is better than in Germany.

And we make the $1 trillion economy with only 18 million people.

how the flip is UK 20th and Saudi is 78th!!

Im from the UK and idk what makes the QOL so great in the UK comapred to the other countries on the list.

Pretty sure this doesn’t account for the Trumpocalypse. No way in hell the US is still 31st.

    8. Really ironic seeing this when its mostly just the boomers living a life of absolute luxury while most of the under 30 people are really screwed over with study debts, not being able to buy a house etc.

What’s the real GDP though? How do I know some of these countries don’t have an unusually high nominal GDP for that year?

Australia has trillion economy and has a Much much much better quality of life than germany. This ranking is pure bullshit.

      I wonder why lmao

      >Germany: 30.3% of GDP on social welfare, 2.12% of GDP on military

      >Netherlands: 22.3% of GDP on social welfare, 1.7% of GDP on military

    12. _sQuare89_ on

I wish i could understand why germany is rated that high, considering how high the taxation is that you’re close to being forced to live in poverty unless you go for big sacrifises. In germany the gov forces its people to live with millions of people from a completely different culture. Germans are forced to pay for millions of peoples housing and food and even further stuff.

I don’t know who made this statistic, but it’s impossible that germany goes second place here.

Once ASML leaves the Netherlands (and they probably will in the future) it will drop a lot

for now maybe. We are richer in the USA at least and have way more purchasing power.

I am surprised, that Japan is so high up.
Sure, ist very developed and cultivated, but to me it often comes across as a bit of a dystopia, where everyone has to live up to extremely high standards, of discipline and conformity…

I guess, like so often, one has to wonder how those quality of life scores are calculated.

It’s almost like GDP has little to no impact on QoL.

I call BS on Russia still being that high up in the index.
