Sto visitando Bratislava e mi sto davvero godendo il vostro paese 🙂 Oggi ho visitato Bratislavský hrad e io e la mia famiglia abbiamo notato questa strana finestra di vetro sul lato del castello. Sinceramente, l’unica idea che ci è venuta è stata che fosse come il balcone del Papa che hanno avuto in Vaticano per rivolgersi al pubblico, lol. Qualcuno di voi sa cosa potrebbe essere? Grazie in anticipo!

There’s a room that used to be walled off for centuries which preserved it from fire that destroyed the castle and they found it during reconstruction or something like that. No idea why the glass though. But the castle has also one of its original gothic windows poking out on purpose from a different side.
That’s the room where the monarchs of old did erotic shadow puppets on the wall. Kind of a medieval porn theater.
The castle got rebuilt few times and that specific area was rebuild from oriel window to regular one durring Maria Theresia reign. Then, when castle was rebuilt in 50s, they decided to return something like oriel window back so frescos preserved inside are visible.
That design is probably result of combining renesance oriel window into style of soviet brutalism.
On the first floor of the castle we have “reprezentačné priestory” – space only used for official diplomatic visits. They are always closed to visitors – the only exception being the 1st of September. The glass window you see is the last and biggest room of these representative spaces where they actually sit down and discuss/greet the visitors (recently it was the Slovenian president).

It’s nice to see that everyone has a sifferent explanation and we still don’t know 🙂
There was “arkier” sort of bumped out window “oriel” in english, which was removed in 17th century, which resulted in big hole in the wall, which was later just glassed over.
Here you can see how the window looked 15 years ago before the current reconstruction of the castle. The white parts were added to closely align the window pane to the rest of the facade.
