At this point I am not sure I would trust Trump to uphold any agreement any more than I would trust Putin’s agreements.

Color me skeptical (in shades of Blue and Yellow), but didn’t Ukraine have written security from US and Russia in exchange for giving up their nuclear weapons years ago? How effective were those? Stick to your guns Ukraine don’t take any “deal” that works in the same way…. I am, as are millions of others, praying for you.

    3. Trump doesn’t get Ukrainian constitution prohibits Zelensky to cede land, but at the same time he thinks Russia adopting a law prohibiting to annex more territory would be very meaningful. Trump is dumb and has bad intentions but it’s always hard to know which of those two is at play.

Russia always breaks its peace deals. Twice before they made deals with Ukraine in regards to the Budapest memorandum and twice they reneged on their deals. Their word is worth nothing.

A “nato style defense agreement” you know like the one with nato that Trump has said repeatedly he wouldn’t honor of Russia attacked Europe 🙄

People are letting their hatred for Trump blind them. Currently Trump is acting as the middleman or go between. Putin gave his predicable maximum demands and the whole of Reddit immediately assume it’s Trump caving into Putin. No it’s forcing Putin to give his wants our loud. The US listens and offers a bit, in this regard Security Guarantees. Now Trump goes to Zelensky who rightfully Turns down Putins offer. Zelensky will say we like the Security Guarantees part and he’ll give what he’s willing to give up. Putin of course will refuse and if negotiations don’t die right here now you have a Top and Bottom positions to work with. It’s almost like some people have never negotiated in their life.

The Budapest Agreement wasn’t a defense Treaty. The US did exactly what it was required to, it gave material aid and other means but it was never required to assist with it’s military. Heck even NATOs article 5 is a bit hazy. It says member nations are required to assist but it doesn’t say you must send your armies into battle.

So in short Security Guarantees must be given in detail and legally binding. Putin will want a Budapest style Guarantees in that a future US government like Obama’s can give moral support and only MREs but no weapons vs Trump who gave actual weapons like the Javalin.

This is however part of the negotiation process.

    9. Toilet paper is worth more than any guarantee from Trump.

Ukraine is Hopefully working to restore its nuclear weapons capabilities. They now have the home grown missiles that can carry them.

They US has already given security guarantees once, when Ukraine handed their nuclear weapons to Russia.

    11. IMO Zelensky is just making sound bites before the meeting. No use supplying ammunition prior to then.

This was promised in 1994. Both Russia and USA are worthless with “security guarantees”

How can anyone trust what Trump promises? They already gave up their nuclear weapons don’t fall for it again.

    14. Ok-Traffic-9967 on

Didn’t they already agree to this in exchange for you giving your nukes up? Literally don’t ever trust an American to keep their word, no more than Russia…….
