The head of state said that “Russia has become a lasting destabilizing force and a potential threat to many of us.”
Vladimir Putin is “a predator, an ogre at our doorstep” who “needs to keep eating” for “his own survival,” Emmanuel Macron warned on Tuesday, calling on Europeans “not to be naive” about Russia, which will be “a lasting destabilizing force.” “Since 2007-2008, President Putin has rarely kept his commitments. He has consistently been a destabilizing force. And he has sought to redraw borders to expand his power,” the French president emphasized in an interview on LCI.
The French president believes that “Russia has become a lasting destabilizing force and a potential threat to many of us.” “A country that invests 40% of its budget in such equipment, which has mobilized an army of more than 1.3 million men, will not return to a state of peace and an open democratic system overnight,” he warned.
“So, including for its own survival, it needs to continue to eat. That’s it. And so it is a predator, it is an ogre at our doorstep. I’m not saying that tomorrow France will be attacked, but it is a threat to Europeans (…) We must not be naive,” insisted the head of state. This interview was conducted following the meeting in Washington between Donald Trump and several European leaders, where a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin was announced.
However, in another interview with the American channel NBC News, Emmanuel Macron made no secret of the fact that he did not share Donald Trump’s optimism about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement. “When I look at the situation and the facts, I don’t see President Putin wanting peace right now, but maybe I’m too pessimistic,” he said.

100% based!
Macron is so right! I wish the rest of the EU was as much resolute.
An absolute based gigachad. Thank god we got at least some partners with balls in this world.
I hope we can all agree on that.
Graphic imagery, but spot on. RuZZia can’t afford Ukraine to be a succesfull democratic country. It must be turned into another Belarus. Russia has got no positive model to offer to the countries in its sphere of influence, “just raw materials and political thuggery”.

>*There is no basis for Russia to serve as a global focal point, drawing countries toward it. Its economic model offers little inspiration. It can ill afford to serve as a major donor of aid. It is less able to sell weapons—it needs them itself and is even trying to buy back systems it has sold—and has been reduced in some cases to bartering with other pariah states. It has lost its strong position as a provider of satellites. It belongs to a pariah club with Iran and North Korea, exuberantly exchanging weapons, flouting international law, and promising much further trouble. It’s not difficult to imagine each betraying the other at the next better opportunity, however, provided they do not unravel first; the West is more resilient than the “partnerships” of the anti-West. Even many former Soviet partners that refused to condemn Russia over Ukraine, including India and South Africa, do not view Moscow as a developmental partner but as scaffolding for boosting their own sovereignty. Russia’s foreign policy delivers at best tactical gains, not strategic ones: no enhanced human capital, no assured access to leading-edge technology, no inward investment and new infrastructure, no improved governance, and no willing mutually obliged treaty allies, which are the keys to building and sustaining modern power. Besides raw materials and political thuggery, the only things Russia exports are talented people.*
It’s always refreshing to hear a bit of realness from him
I know it he’s a politician doing the politician but hell if he can say it properly
I have said it from the beginning of this war. The only way it stops is by forcing Russia into a position where they have to kill Putin to survive.
That means not giving in to anything, not one inch, arming Ukraine to the teeth and not being afraid to use real detterance against the Russians. Force Putin in a position where he is seen as a failure internally and escalates with more and more violent rhetoric out of panic. Everything that is happening in Alaska now is the opposite, and Europe, through its passivity is forcing Ukraine at the negotiating table.
Wow, what did Shrek do?
Europe and USA were able to end the war in 2022 with enough weapons for Ukraine. Without Trump. Even before midterm in USA in 2022. Russian professional military was destroyed, big mines fields were not built, drones are not yet developed, which would allow fast movement of Ukraine troops in case they would have enough artillery and equipment.
Biden, Macron, Scholz spent the time with words. Why and whom warns Macron now?
He’s a man that understands Putin, a complete psychopath. You cannot reason with a psychopath. Unfortunately, trump is also mentally deranged so he doesn’t get it.
The Russian’s are going to laugh their ass off at the idea been the ones acting in bad faith, especially when Western diplomacy towards Russia has been shoving knives in the back while hugging since Gorbachev and the Common European Home was basically publically decapitated by Western diplomats who acted like scheming Chinese eunuchs. (seriously memoirs of diplomats and interperters of the time between the west and Gorby/Yeltsin are a legitimately painful read)
IR relations with Russia has always been a clusterfuck. West will never trust Russia because it’s seen as Asia and frankly, Germany, France and the UK know a successful Russia would be the most powerful country in Europe bar none and a monster superpower near the scale of the US, and Russia will never trust the West because of constant backstabbing from Germany and the UK over the centuries and Russian chauvinism means they want Europe to acknowledge they are a historical cultural leader of Europe on the level of France, Germany and historical Italy. (Third Rome and all that)
The fact France now is in the extreme anti-Russia camp though, means that pretty much Russian-EUropean normalization is now dead likely our lives. France for the most part, has been the most Pro-Russia Western European country through the 20th and 21st century.
Correct.
I’m agreeing with a Frenchman.
The world is doomed.
At this point, we need Putin to DIE (from natural causes) very very soon and hope that his successor isn’t worse.
But Putin’s reign was based on his personality so his successor will have trouble being legitimate. Maybe that could weaken him (and throw Russia into chaos, Putin is the only thing holding it together).
