La chiesa di Kiruna, in Svezia, viene trasferita 5 km nel corso di due giorni, poiché le operazioni minerarie hanno reso instabile il terreno sotto il centro della città. La TV svedese sta trasmettendo la mossa dal vivo.

Aka the place featured in ‘The Abyss’ movie (no not the underwater one, the one about a Swedish mine swallowing a town). Has to be a really weird place to live, given the movement also imagine everyone has the constant thought there could be another Earthquake.

This church is included in the book 1001 Buildings to See Before You Die. It’s architecturally significant. Glad to see it’s being well looked after for the long term.

Different traditions for church architecture between Denmark and Sweden.

Try google search for “Sverige Kyrkor” and “Danmark kirker”.

Lots of details or simplistic. Tower structure as part of the church roof, connected to the church but independent roof or entirely free standing. Wood or stone. Mostly white vs lots of different colors. Squarish vs rectangular.

How did they lift the whole building and put it on that… wheeled barge?
