Cameron and Osbourne. All the media spin and no substance policy. Well, we’re paying for it now.
The Internal audit function is still working although that was also cut quite badly so there is still independent assurance being given. It’s just not well publicised that you can just ask for a copy of the audit reports under FoI.
The austerity years were such a clownshow.
They cancelled an insulation scheme that was insulating 250k houses a year to “save money”, and then a decade later there was a massive fuel crisis and talk of 2.5m under-insulated houses being a big contributor.
Woking alone has losses of something like £1.7 billion pounds, scrapping a £100m oversight agency and allowing that to happen is a terrible financial decision even when considering that one council.
I’m so fucking tired of incompetence in government. The last 20 years have been a nightmare.
