Not that I approve of the decision but the “UK *independent* space agency *scrapped* to cut costs” means that it’s being merged into another department (DSIT) rather than outright cancelled.
Would honestly rather have the nurses/police/teachers.
Seems sensible enough if it will cost less this way.
I’ve always regarded it as international “mine’s bigger than yours …”
No reason what it does can’t be done in already existing areas of government with a reduction in bureaucratic overhead.
Fun fact: the UK is the only country on Earth to develop an independent space launch capability, and then abandon it.
I know it’s a semantics thing, but how is it truly independent if the government just shuts it down?
Honestly I’d scrap international aid before this, even India still gets aid from us and they have a space program.
Why does it feel this government has lost any ambition that it had?
