On 20. August, 1083, St. Stephen was canonised, making him a Saint. He was the first king of Hungary and is considered the founder of the more than 1000 year old nation. That’s what we celebrate today.

Across the nation, there are numerous programs and celebrations, such as an air parade in Budapest and a Flower Festival in Debrecen. But the most famous of the celebrations is of course the huge fireworks at the end of the day (which are turning quite controversial year by year because of the large amount of money going into it).

      Happy Birthday, Hungary!

      Boldog Születésnapot, Magyarország!

Happy holiday, Hungary! I assume no work today, so may I ask what do people usually do? Gather the family, go somewhere for a walk or hike? Is there a dish traditionally cooked today?

Hungary is a beautiful European country with great, friendly people living there. So, congratulations from an Austrian (We once were family 😉)

But please… for the fate of Europe…. get rid of Orban as soon as possible. So we can love you even more. ❤️
