How is this for anyone okay? I’m feeling drained as an European.

      >The 3 1/2-page text represents a political commitment and is not legally binding. It contrasts with the typical format for trade agreements, which can be hundreds of pages long and carry legal force.

The only important part of this announcement.

This is just more kicking the can down the road, while the tariffs continue to erode the US economy.

The US Fed meeting is under way in Jackson Hole and the expectation is that any chance of rates cuts is dimming rapidly due to the impact of tariffs on the US. Evidence is also starting to come up that companies are *not* absorbing the tariffs, and are simply passing them on to the consumer.

Now, I predict a wave of completely genuine posts proclaiming that they’re a proud (German|Frenchman|Swede) and utterly disgusted with the EU for giving in.

This is not legally binding, this is just humoring Trump’s fragile ego lol

    4. Vaestmannaeyjar on

The EU game for now is to make empty promises to Trump that are not binding.

It’s nothing new, but the old energy dominance situation. You buy dirty fossils, we cut off tariffs and send big boats to ensure safe shipping. It’s literally the core of the deal. kets.

    6. CptnMillerArmy on

The core of the deal is „import flexibility on fossil fuels“. Again, the US strategy is not tariffs, but energy dominance.

    7. Are you fucking kidding me? I really hope that my country kicks up a stink on this and that France blocks this deal since they’re the only ones in the EU with some sense in their mind.

    8. partialinsanity on

As long as we don’t have to remove any important regulations.

    9. Question, and I don’t want to presume the answer, does the countries have to ratify this deal?

    10. They better not say the US can sell their crappy unhealty foods in the EU

    11. FallenAngel7334 on

This is a joke. Europe is under attack from both East and West. The silver lining is that no matter the deal we can count on EU legislators taking their time passing new regulations.

In the meantime, I’m not buying anything from US companies.

I think they are just playing so it seems Trump wins. It’s not legaly binding It’s all BS.l

    13. hammilithome on

All this work to be boycotted by EU consumers.

      Don’t buy our shit, fam

As a European I’m happy that we have quite some aggressive ruling when it comes to foodstuff so they can’t force terrible tasting chocolate, toxic apples, or diarrhea inducing gummy bears down our throats.

If US wants to import how about upping your standards instead of the other way around…

    15. Darjuz96 on

The European should avoid to buy American products, where possible.

    16. How can you legislate on opening your market to US products unless that means lowering your safety standards.

It is a free market and therefore every worldwide company is a possible supplier, and that even applies to government purchases put out to tender.

    17. berejser on

Why would we even want to buy US products? They make crappy stuff compared to us.

    18. 1morgondag1 on

Why on Earth are they agreeing to something as one-sided as this?

    19. OkBaker51 on

This is not OK, we need to punch back against this bullshit.

    20. NoHopeNoLifeJustPain on

I’m not going to buy american anymore if I can choose. I already reduced my purchases of books from Amazon, buying more from local stores, stopped eating in McD or BK and so on. I know I’m lucky because I’m not living paycheck to paycheck, many don’t have choice but lowest price, those who can should stop to buy american, they don’t deserve it, I feel betrayed for the very last time.

    21. monkeyinsurgency on

What these MAGA idiots fail to take into account is that a lot of Europeans will deliberately avoid buying American goods as a result of this bullying.

Fine. Make your shitty Chevrolets available here, and watch them rust in the dealership carpark.

    22. Take your american junk and shove it where the sun don’t shine

    23. PsychologicalLet9155 on

so if one was going to give the middle finger to both murica and heurope, where would one go?

And this was done to help Ukraine. And then Trump pissed all over Europe and Ukraine. Again. The fact is that the orange turd is in fact a turd. He lies and cheats and doesn’t believe standing by any agreement on any topic. It’s naive for Europe to even be friends. It’s time we cut out the US and focused on partnership in the rest of the world who also want to disengage from the US. To be a friend to the US is to invite blackmail and coercion.
