I am sorry if I totally misunderstand or have stupid assumptions but I can imagine that soccer fans like to identify with their idols like I assume most people do and in Germany I believe dark skin is still a minority. Therefore I would say it’s logical that he wouldn’t get the same admiration or “love”. Personally, I do not see a problem with that. It’s just about idols not about actual love.

He’s the captain. He’s definitely recognized for his achievements isn’t he and isn’t that more important in this context than being “loved”?
