One more reason for Europe to invest in its own digital infrastructure.
We need to give grants to open source projects that are developing alternatives to US products, fund independent datacenters and hurry up on the digital euro.
To me this seems like a national security problem. Possibly a compliance issue too.
A good reason to avoid Microsoft, not just Windows
And that is why we need to get away from MS and any other US based companies. Like u/liyabuli said: this is a major national security concern.
Ahhh, I see we’re finally saying the quiet part out loud, hmm?
Dear EU: Get your arse up **AND BUILD YOUR OWN INFRASTRUCTURE!** Idgaf any more about any “oh, but its so difficult” or “oh this will cost so much”. You have just been **told** that your vaunted laws and whatever illusions you have about “privacy” are worth diddly squat when the US says so.
Evil greedy corporations do evil greedy things. Shocking. Solution: Stop using Microsoft products.
so, lets desinvest the fuck out of these companies. Open source exists and sure its a vit uglier or clunkier but if more people use it it will improve. Its like Moodle VS Canvas in college campuses, lets make the Open source better

Good thing eu and uk will move gov data to microsoft cloud 😂
Funny how emboldened they’ve become now they have a fascist in power.
That is why Europe needs its own operating systems and clouds and credit cards
American companies ignore eu laws unless penalties are imposed. They only respect American institutions
That will mean a lot of fines.
M$ is super busy turning itself the Bad Guy. Assisting Zionists with their psychopath genocide is where I draw the line.
The solution seems simple if not easy. Create a Microsoft EU which is an independent company with its own listing on an EU stock market. There are no common ownership, management, leadership or operations. Microsoft EU pays royalties to Microsoft US and has unlimited source code license including software patches. If Microsoft US ever cuts off microsoft EU from software updates, Microsoft EU has the capability to go it alone with its own engineering teams. Overtime the tech stack will diverge but no overnight disruption. Microsoft EU has its own data centers, engineers, commercial teams and all other functions
For sure it makes commercial sense to Microsoft compared with the alternative, probably Microsoft is already doing this in China
For sure they follow first the laws of their own country and then the laws of others.
Theoretically I expect the same from our own countries.
The thing is that we have to get sufficiently independent, that we do not rely on them in a way that this causes a practical problem.
The EU should say that we are moving away from the US solutions starting today
We are going to keep taking rights away from nations if they continue to allow us to do so.
Honestly, with the infinite cringe on the horizon in the EU (Age verification, Chat control) I’m honestly not opposed to US tech firms telling us to stuff it.
I frankly hope that US firms simply refuse to comply and, if the EU keeps pushing, cut off access. We’ll see how long the EU manages without American digital infrastructure and how long it takes for EU citizens call for blood after being cut off from the American internet (i.e. virtually every part of the internet that matters)
Wake up.
I’m ordering a NOKIA. Will go back to paper money. Fuck these data stealing American companies.
we all know that, US companies obey to US law worldwide.
if US want to access Microsoft, amazon etc data from Europe, they will find a way to comply with this order without being caught.
But is not like EU doesn’t want to be tech independent. there is a lot of reasons why EU cannot beat US tech and China could.
that is why China more and more bans US tech on official computers and servers.
Says all you need to know about how your data is USA’s data
Hmm ok.. if you are conducting business in multiple countries it’s each countries regulations that need to be followed, not only head quarter country.. EU should fine them heavily for each violation
Nothing new, and I agree with Microsoft.
The only fuckers there are the EU/French/Canadian officials who knew that from the beginning as well but pretended otherwise to ditch local alternatives. In France OVH was quite vocal about it…
Well this isnt new but thanks to trump its on the agenda.
US still has laws?
Keep fining these companies then. Nice way to get back the billions of tax they didn’t pay in the EU.
