      • No details
      • Talks mostly about SMRs which are a fad so far

Wake me up if any of these nuclear power plants actually go into service in 2050 when it’s too late for literally any use case.

Good countries are actually starting on nuclear. Should have done so 15 years ago, but i guess late is better than never. Even in my historical “anti-nuclear” nation of Norway is somewhat talking about it too. Specially in my area where there is lots of industry that needs energy. And Germany spiking our energy prices has caused concern for energy for our industry.

Quite the contrast to when i was a child when all nuclear was taboo pretty much.

Nuclear is the only real option to meet our huge power demands. Unless we want to make the whole earth into a power generator by using stuff that requires huge areas of land. Like wind turbines.

Nuclear power delivers power at much lower land use. Nuclear power use about 350x as little land as wind for the power it provides.

Please go to the UK. No one Should rely on the US in such sensitive areas anymore

    4. Good that they are not considering Russian nuclear! Good first step

    5. Sweden used to have top notch nuclear technology and industry (e.g. ASEA Atom). They even exported great nuclear power plants. Shame that the industry was willfully driven down by activists and politicians and now after decades of losing the know-how they have to import instead.

Organizational knowledge and skills are like individual knowledge and skills: if you don’t invest, train and improve you’ll lose it. The big difference is that it’s almost impossible to get lost organizational know-how back because too many people have moved on, retired or passed away.

But good thing they’re waking up!

Better go with uk tech otherwise you end up with backdoor access to sabotage if Sweden doesn’t do as trump/putin wants.

Article is paywalled but UK makes what as a reactor ? Or maybe we are talking about small compact ones?
As far as i get current nuclear reactor being built in UK are from EDF so french ones, otherwise if i remember well even french ones have some american technology.

Meanwhile, in Poland, Korean engineers are packing their bags because they are sick of the current government not doing anything with nuclear plans since they got into power 🙃

This will not happen because we have chosen not to fight the climate collapse. We are quickly running out of time, and nuclear is the most lethal legacy imaginable when civilization crumbles.

Stop investing into US and UK companies and goods! It’s not our job to support their economy.

US tech seems like the best fit, but safety and clean energy come first!

The yanks are just gonna shove a remote controlled off switch in there like they do their military gear…

Meanwhile, the UK are building nuclear power plants with French reactors.

By making this decision, Sweden could set an influential precedent globally.

    15. I bet Sweden doesn’t. Once the voters realise how much they will end up paying for it, the idea will be quietly shelved. There’s a reason why the global nuclear reactor fleet has a capacity of less than 400GW after 60 years of deployments. It’s also the reason why over 550GW of renewables were deployed last year alone. It’s because investors aren’t dumb.

Can you guess in which years were the most construction starts of reactors? The mid 1970s. The nuclear industry had been in decline for two generations and they still haven’t figured out why.

Trump will have the US deliver systems that have been dumbed down and are full of backdoors. Just as he bragged about doing with the fighter jets they are building and selling to allies.

Why on earth would you go with a US company when you have the opportunity to boost European tech and European companies instead. We need to lift each other up. Become tribal. If we start to support each other we will become just as big as the USA. We have to compete for the first place. Stop leeching.

People is supporting the UK technology rather than US technology, because of Trump and Russia.

What a joke timeline and a shit world we are living in.
