A one trick pony. Contrary to popular belief, tarrifs don’t work.
Is it a day ending in `Y`? Then the Sun (Down) King of America is threatening tariffs again. I’m not even anxious anymore, it’s just fake-tanned white noise at this stag.e
> I put all Countries with Digital Taxes, Legislation, Rules, or Regulations, on notice that unless these discriminatory actions are removed, I, as President of the United States, will impose substantial additional Tariffs on that Country’s Exports to the USA,
The way MAGA has embraced its obvious Monarchy Envy into enabling a king is a beautiful bit of poetic irony for a country so noisily proud about its origins.
Ireland doesn’t ‘attack’ tech companies. We are very, very accommodating to them.
We bend over for tech companies I don’t know what more we could do
We need to be much tougher, starting by banning social media for under 15s.
Russia literally attacked an American factory with missiles in western Ukraine last week and Trump said nothing.
The US administration still finding themselves believing that there’s such a thing as “American” companies, when in reality it’s a marketing gimmick that these companies use to manipulate US politicians and the US consumer.
Very, very few tech companies are doing something which cannot be replicated by someone else.
You implement tarriffs which make it expensive to work with Google or Amazon, and an EU-based company can spring up to offer a competitor in days or weeks.
Microsoft, Google and Amazon are in fact already hedging on this; [https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/industry/sovereignty/cloud](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/industry/sovereignty/cloud)
They’re expecting that the US admin is going to try and strongarm them into applying US law to other jurisdictions, so they’re putting structures in place to allow them to operate independently.
The US government doesn’t control big companies. It’s the other way around. They’re not going to voluntarily walk away from a wealthy market of 400m people out of “patriotism”.
> It was unclear which EU or EU member state officials the action would target
How did they come up with the headline so?
There’s a definite risk they’ll try to divide the EU on regulation – it’s proven to be utterly spineless in the memorandum they signed with Trump on trade, so he’ll just keep pushing.
Unfortunately the EU is proving to be all talk and often very lacking in solidarity when push comes to shove on approaching the US.
A lot of this about being able to push MAGA ideologies into Europe, and the UK, Canada etc etc
I think it’s been a huge mistake not regulating social media and big tech through an EU agency. Individual countries are far more vulnerable, particularly smaller ones.
I beg that they bring it on and we don’t fold to their demands. We’ve had well and truly enough of foreign imperialism.
Cankles McTaco Tits will be dead soon
How can you negotiate with this prick if he keeps moving the goal posts.
What an absolute wanker
Another day another threat from the Tangerine Toddler.
Tariff my balls you orange bastard
I think the targets are primarily countries imposing digital taxes, and Ireland isn’t one of them.
There are other things however which will make us targets – including any requirements for age restrictions.
As ever I think what’s important here is the EU responds, and not individual states. Trump and his cronies would love nothing more than to make individual deals/shakedowns with EU countries.
Ignore it, it just wants attention. It’ll be dead soon enough
The EU capitulated a couple of weeks ago and gave him 15% tariffs and a promise of massive spending on energy and military.
And unsurprisingly the gangster is back for more already. We need to stop seeing him as a politician and start looking at him as the head of a crime gang running a protection racket. They keep threatening to burn down your property unless you pay them. He’ll keep demanding more and more until we push back.
No deal is possible with a child at the wheel of the largest economy. Boycott. It’s that simple. Ireland will be grand, we have an educated population, unlike murikkka.
Anyone for TACO?
Well, that’s that so. We may as well become the 51st state because without that sweet sweet US inward investment, we’re going back to the 80’s. BUT, what about the rainy day fund? Can’t we use that to create our own Silicon Valley to rival the US? Notions you say!?
Trump is a CUNT
Let the battered anus spew its fetid shit. It won’t be around forever.
EU needs to push back and tell him to shove his tarrifs deal. I’m done with this asshole
Ireland… attack? It’s literally US Tech’s favorite place in the world.
