Not just students. I’ve a place to live until Sept next year, and I’m already sweating.

How are universities going to function with this kind of lack of access to student housing? We seem to have incentivised building of it with big tax breaks, but it’s still totally inadequate – access to on campus / near campus at cost accommodation should be part of the setup at a university. It should be at a controlled rent and restricted to students, researchers and staff.

Housing situation in [insert county] leaving [insert group] ‘exhausted, broke and angry.

It’s almost like the majority of people that vote don’t care about anyone but themselves.

The worst part is we’ve just accepted it.

It’s gone from almost toppling the government to I can’t vote for Sinn Fein, it can’t be fixed overnight to..acceptance? And acceptance that it’ll only get worse?

We’re lot more like North Korea etc than people like to admit the way we bow down to the almighty government

I left Ireland, and specifically Galway, in 2015 because of the early onset symptoms of the housing crisis. Rents were already making my friends and I sweat a bit. It’s absolutely staggering ineptitude and a complete collapse of the social structure that this is still going on 10 years which our government flip-flops between two cheeks of the same arse, while I’m effectively economically exiled from my home town. I hate the Irish government so much.

There are loads of unused mansions up and down the country. The state could buy them up and house students easily. They generally come with a LOT of land also so building those into villages would be no issue.

We need to stop giving foreign student visas until we have enough accommodations. It’s shameful we let Universities create an even worse housing crisis, just to make a fortune on foreign.
