It’s nicknamed French controlled Air System for a reason…

I don’t understand why we need Germany for a joint development on this one TBH.

Dassault is more than capable alone, and partnerships with countries such as India look far less cumbersome than whatever is negociated since years on this one.

As for selling the plane, other EU countries will more than likely buy whatever the US sell so why bother

If France also assumes the sole leadership of financing, then that’s fine with me.

      >The FCAS project, with an estimated cost of more than 100 billion euros ($117.07 billion) and in which Spain is also a partner, has been plagued by delays and infighting over workshare and intellectual property rights between France and Germany, as well as their respective national industries.

      100 billion is ridiculously optimistic.

So basically it’s the Eurofighter program all over again.

Bit of a disaster for Germany here. Can’t join GCAP because UK-Italy-Japan are cemented in their positions. Whether they like it or not they’re stuck with France. And the French of course knows this, and they also know that they have all the expertise to go and do this all on their own whereas Germany doesn’t. So for Germany this could be a situation where they’re going to have to accept that the French probably have the leverage to assume leadership.

    7. This is why Europe is lagging behind the US. In theory, it all sounds great. Joint ventures, really good ideas. When push comes to shove, 1) France wants leadership, 2) Germany wants leadership, 3) project dies.

    8. And again another hit piece from the German media which continues to try undermining the French mic in order to get more contract. It did not shock them when the German mic wanted the majority of the common tank project.

Same as the fake news about the 80% that have been debunked later.

Germany does not want to fulfill it’s obligations and has been renegotiating from day 1. They did the same on the Eurofighter on multiple level and had to be bailed out twice and created massive delay on top of underperforming themselves.

They only provide money, have no real experience considering they fucked up their part on the Eurofighter but still want the majority of the workload and French techs (which is the basis for the new fighter) to prop up their flagging manned plane mic.

They made a mess of the Eurodrone development and have no real achievement to boast by themselves for the FCAS fighter pillar.

It’s not for nothing that Germany is the common denominator of failed and massively delayed project across the Europeans countries joint development.

Ah yes, the French…who keep pumping out delta-canard jets and have never even attempted to touch stealth technology let alone all the other bells and whistles that 6th gen demands.

Color me highly, highly skeptical that nations outside America (and maybe China off of all that corporate espionage) can develop actual working 6th gen fighter jet technology with seemingly zero expertise at even 5th-gen level designs, unless we count piggybacking off of Lockheed’s F-35.

I mean it’s France, this is a surprise to absolutely no one.

France is the only European country knowing what’s doing. It’s harsh but the EU would work with the Germans paying for it and the French taking decisions.

Germans et al are politically retarded and geostrategically absurd, as we have seen repeatedly.

This is the typical french MO, always talking about a “strong Europe”, but only if it benefits them.

    13. Suzumebachi14 on

Yes, we want the leadership in the FCAS program, because it is what was AGREED from day one, just like it was agreed on day one that Germany would have the leadership in the MGCS program. But as always, Germany wants to fuck us by renegotiating constantly to get the maximum amount of shares in the FCAS, and even pushed for the inclusion of Spain in the program so that Airbus would have a lot more weight in the program. But on the opposite, we are not seeking to get more shares in the MGCS program, because we stick to what was agreed. But in the end, Germany doesn’t give a shit about the MGCS because they have the Panther and are making the Leopard 3. So in the end, Germany fucks us twice, they want the biggest share of the FCAS and our know-how, and they will likely do the bare minimum, or even leave the MGCS, because they have no interest in it, and we’ll end up with a crappy tank.

And for the little geniuses who think it’s because of France that this project will likely fail, you just have to see the franco-british projects which didn’t have much problems: SEPECAT Jaguar and SCALP/Storm Shadow for the military, and Concorde for the civilian.

But yeah, as always, it’s always the fault of the arrogant french, because the germans have always known better than everyone else, right ?

I’m tired of the german media bullshit.

Just by mentionning the same 80% from the original source that literally stopped talking about FCAS after this got denied show how trustworthy it is….

Somehow only the german side has informations about the exact problem and it in the end was a lie….

The still only official information is from the DGA [https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2025/07/10/france-asks-fcas-partners-to-rethink-work-share-on-fighter-project/](https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2025/07/10/france-asks-fcas-partners-to-rethink-work-share-on-fighter-project/) and not an “unnamed defense industry source”

    15. JaDaYesNaamSi on

German companies are taking the lead with the tanks because they have a stronger expertise, so why a French company could not be leading the new fighter program if it has more expertise ?

    16. Patient_Moment_4786 on

I’m tired of our governants who just can’t let some old ideas go away…

Yes, being independant is great, but forcing hand to other countries with differents vision never worked and will not work the 91417479th time…

Honnestly, it’s already a miracle we have some companies like Airbus or ArianeGroup…

    17. Grizzly2525 on

Damn sounds like literally every European Joint Defense project that tries to involve France.
