      I struggle to picture Ed Davey doing anything other than falling off paddle boards. But if he wants to use his position to protest against the horrific conditions in Gaza then I’m all for it.

      And if he skipped banquets more often then he might fit in the wetsuit a bit better…

    2. Is this the best way to protest about Gaza? If the opportunity to snub trump/charles/pheasants cropped up, would Gaza be the cause you chose to base your protest?

      A blow for His Majesty and Trump, no doubt. I expect they’ll cancel the banquet over this.

      I’m sorry, but of all the abhorrent things that Trump has done *that’s* the one that pushes you over the edge?

    5. No surprise whatsoever that the “but it won’t magically fix the problem so it’s worthless” crowd is already all over this.

      It’s a small, but welcome, gesture of solidarity. Opposition parties have virtually zero power in the British Westminster system, so high profile events like this offer opportunities for making public stances known.

      This same party also suffocates for lack of media attention; they don’t get a free front page story on the BBC every day.
