Step 2, make it stop every few miles because <local town> thinks people will get off there and do business
Step 3, high speed is now low speed because it stops all the time at places people don’t even want to go to
Step 4, no one uses it because it’s faster to fly
If people suggested planes to Europe should have to land at Southend for 5 minutes that would be crazy but for some reason doing it with trains is smart…

I used it a few times back in the day. It was pretty awesome, but I don’t see how it’s in any way viable to reopen it.
The last decade and a bit has been brutal to Ashford and, indeed, much of East Kent. There’s just nothing there to justify an expensive, passenger-only service like this and they’re not making much of a case for that £2.7 Billion it’s supposed to manifest just by existing. It doesn’t help that the port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel are both nearby.
