A Polish Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed Thursday during a rehearsal for the Radom Air Show, killing the pilot and prompting officials to cancel the weekend event. The aircraft struck the runway around 7:30 p.m. local time, causing significant damage and igniting a fireball visible to onlookers.
Government spokesman Adam Szlapka confirmed the fatality on social media, while Poland’s defense minister traveled to the crash site. The incident casts a shadow over one of Central Europe’s largest aviation showcases, which had been expected to draw tens of thousands of spectators.
