He is a bit of a rat. He tried to set himself up for a tory poltical career while still in the army and failed. Typical for s tory, he complained about the state of the army, while in the army’s top job (“this is a shitshow who is in charge of this mess, oh, its me”). He complained about the state of the ARRC during its deployment to Afghanistan after handing it over just prior to their deployment (“i prepared it, but its shit”) and complained about the equipment the army had, having served as C in C Land immediately prior (i choose what the army buys, but its shit who did this?!). From anecdotes I hear this tendency to blame those around him was prevalent in the later part of his professional career.
