If anything, this shows that the peaceful protests did nothing. I remember Belarus saying it’s not Maidan and being proud of it and now where are they?

Their only hope is Ukrainian army.

Lukashenko doesn’t have much of an interest in allowing any opposition to his rule. My guess would be, he does it to keep up appearances and so that foreign powers leave him alone. So, yeah, while on paper an opposition does exist, I don’t see much of a change happening in Belarus anytime soon.

Truth EU bros here won’t like or accept is that EU, as long as it’s represented by reps like Ursula or Merkel before here, would not care about the autocracy in Belarus if Lukashenko was in their pocket like the Serbian (pains me to even call him Serbian) leader is.

I have a few colleagues that ran away from Belarus after the protests, so I am just gonna repeat what they told me. Never mind the opposition, as much as they hate Lukashenko, they are now afraid of what is going to happen when he finally steps down/dies. Since Putin did not “get” Ukraine, they have fears Belarus may become a consolation prize.
I argued that Belarus as a separate nation is more convenient for Putin in the international arena, but then again, I have misplaced my trust in “common sense” of that guy in the past.

There is currently no opposition in Belarus.
And those people who call themselves the opposition abroad have no influence on the situation in Belarus. Unfortunately, that is the reality.
