Hey, anti-vax conspiracists! Another victim of your disinformation and lies.

Deadly disease kills when life saving medicine not used

No one’s fault but the person who didn’t wanna vaccine.

I had whooping cough as a kid, fucking brutal. Felt like I was dying, couldn’t breathe, and the noise ugh.

    5. firetruckgoesweewoo on

I cannot imagine gambling with my infants life by opting out of a vaccine. I hate it when people spread disinformation and then argue that the disease in question barely exists anymore – yes, because we’re _vaccinating_!

      Awful. Poor family and baby.

This came up on the uk politics site and I do think it would be advantageous if there could a vaccination that all adults could access, not just for pregnant women within a limited time.

I could sort of understand some apprehension when the new Covid vaccine was created. It was a race to produce it after all, although I still had every one that was offered.

The vaccines people are refusing now though are tried and tested and proven to be safe. It infuriates me that people are turning against science and research, and letting their children die as a consequence.

Mother responsible for babies death..that’s a more a accurate headline.

My cousin and her husband are anti vax and have cut themselves off from our family as a result. They are taking their unvaccinated kids to Vietnam and Cambodia next month on holiday. It’s a damn disgrace that they are allowed to do that with no repercussions, not even thinking about what can happen in the UK like this.

    10. SuccessfulWar3830 on

      My cousin is anti vax.

She says there is mercury in vaccines. There is.

However there is less mercury in vaccines than 2 fillets of salmon…

My nephew was at a kids party recently, a few weeks later two of the children were diagnosed with whooping cough. He started coughing shortly after (despite the vaccination), but his parents took it very seriously and got him tested and then emergency antibiotics within a day. I’m so grateful to those doctors because it cleared his symptoms up not too long after.

The kids that were initially diagnosed still have it, their symptoms are now so severe that they’re vomiting from coughing. The parents believe that antibiotics are unnecessary because “it’s better for their immune system to fight it off themselves”

      It’s horrifying to watch.

Oh and yes, the parents of the initial kids are anti-vaxx.

I’m not anti-vax but I didn’t have the vaccine while pregnant because of the utter palaver it was trying to get to the clinic. Basically it was every Tuesday, 9:30am, at the hospital. Which is fine if you have a car but we don’t, and the hospital is about a half an hour walk from home, and I had hyperemesis throughout my pregnancy so had very little energy and patience. Oh and they also wouldn’t vaccinate me while I was already there for a scan, nor would the local midwives vaccinate me when I attended their clinics.

This story has made me stop and pause though. Poor baby.

    13. Ok-Swan1152 on

Horrific, that poor poor baby. As a new mum myself, I can never understand mothers who gamble with their babies’ lives like this.

Unfortunately there will be more deaths like this and that stark fact won’t stop the anti-vax conspiracists

So I’m not excusing it but when I was pregnant it was stupidly hard to get hold of mine. I was given the run around and kept getting directed elsewhere. Eventually ended up doing it the very last minute at a new GP I’d never been to before. Midwives and GPs kept telling me they had no idea who does it.

I’m 100% pro vaccine so kept pushing but I imagine someone less keen wouldn’t be so stubborn.

It was ridiculous because 2nd pregnancy they said “am I thinking about the vaccine?” I said yes and they went and grabbed it a minute later. I don’t know what the fuss was about 2 years before.

    16. ODFoxtrotOscar on

In UK in 2012, 14 babies too young to be vaccinated themselves died of whooping cough

That is when the pregnancy booster was rolled out to give newborns some level of transferred maternal protection in the first weeks of life

That’s only 13 years ago, but it seems some people might have forgotten already that this disease really does cause harm and even death

    17. Think-Cattle-1376 on

I went the see my doctor in 1989 for an ear infection. She looked thru my notes. The years 1973-1975 were missing (born in 73).

“I can’t tell if you have had all your boosters”, she said. She called the practice nurse who whipped out the needle and I was sorted there and then. No fuss. I wasn’t even asked, although being sensible, I would have said yes.

In order to protect children from the extreme political, religious or health views of parents, vaccination should be compulsory, or child benefits are stopped.

    18. Adventurous-Carpet88 on

But Facebook says it’s an unnecessary jab, they get a bonus for them taking it and injecting unborn babies. It’s an abortion jab….. big pharma, and we never had whooping cough until it was invented. We just got on with it

    19. mikeysof on

Unfortunately people have to learn the hard way as to why accredited scientists should be listened to and not some fuckwit on social media!

    20. MsSchrodinger on

This is so sad. It could be that the mother was unable to have the vaccine, so I wouldn’t be too quick to judge. I was luckily able to have the whooping cough vaccine whilst pregnant but the nurse refused to give me the flu vaccine as I was too ill after having issues and illness during pregnancy.

    21. Innocuouscompany on

The amount of ant vaxxers I know that happily snort cocaine and take unregulated recreational pills is astounding.

The anti vax community really just speaks to how people distrust the world around them and how that’s derived from authorities connection with big business.

    22. Prisoner-1304 on

I saw a antivax video for pets recently didn’t think it could get more stupid

    23. Big_Championship_BWC on

Another neglectful parent who idiotically believed in those anti vax campaign. A perfect example of why mandatory pregnancy and childhood vaccines would be a good thing because idiotic parents push their ideologies and put their children at risk.

    24. dippedinmercury on

Recommend anyone who can to get revaccinated as an adult. The vaccination doesn’t cover you for life, but it used to not present any real risk because *everyone* was vaccinated as a child, so the illness wasn’t circulating. Unfortunately, as more and more parents are opting out of vaccinations, it is now spreading again including in the adult population, so even those who are vaccinated are now at risk. My partner and I had it a few years back but neither of us recognised it for what it was until it had been a very long time. Neither of us had a clue we could even get it as adults seeing as we were vaccinated as children. It took us four months to feel relatively normal again, we were sick as dogs that whole time and both frequently thought we were going to choke to death in the night. It was horrendous.
