The phones aren’t being resold in the UK or anywhere else, they are already stripped for parts.

What we need is to significantly higher penalties on these “non-violent offenses” and more enforcement.

It’s the same with shoplifting and fare dodging. We should be coming down on these people like a ton of bricks. Years in prison would be suitable.

I’m not sure the point of this proposal, what would be better is:

      1. A dedicated, seperately funded police team to focus on high street crimes including this.

      2. Greater protection for police to use greater force to take down fleeing suspects. A problem right now is that it’s basically impossible to catch them once they’re on these illegal e-bikes as they’re so fast and powerful and the criminal has every incentive to get away and can hurt people, while the police have no weapons and have to be careful about the people around them.

I’ve always said police should develop decoy phones that contain explosives and place them (held by an undercover officer) in high risk areas.

Once the phone is snatched, blow up the phone.

      Thief won’t do it again.

If the woke health and safety won’t allow that, maybe use the same dye they use in money due packs to stain the offender.

what’s the point of changing the law when the current ones aren’t enforced anyway?

You could start by fucking banning ANYONE buying or owning a Surron style electric motorcycle – these things cause any inordinate amount of chaos.

Then protect the plod from the ludicrous over analysis of their actions in protecting the public when they knock them off their electric motorcycle (i say this as someone who does NOT like the police).

Go after the vehicle used by so many of these scumbags and use a broken window policing/ sentencing policy

Isn’t it funny the Independent chose a picture of a white man for their image of a phone thief?
