You can also read details about the government’s Best Start in Life strategy at: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/689b39d55555fb89cf3f5e7d/Giving_every_child_the_best_start_in_life_web_version.pdf

Personally I support every policy and strategy he’s outlined in the above article. Child poverty rates in the UK, especially in England where it’s over 30%, are terrible.

It’s about time a UK Government understands that neglecting children is no way to run a successful country- and this one seems to.

    2. GuyLookingForPorn on

He’s 100% right, Reform talk like the entire country is made up of children.

    3. Fudge_is_1337 on

SureStart and programs like this it were/are fantastic, and exactly the sort of thing that I think a government should be doing. There will doubtless be issues with implementation and the shortage of nursey places in some areas is a real concern but fundamentally supporting children from as young an age as possible is a no-brainer

I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets drowned out by the constant shitshow of the news cycle though

    4. GuyLookingForPorn on

This is one of Labours best most impactful policies, yet 90% of people have no idea about it.

If in doubt, you could always call naysayers a sexual predator/nonce

I’m not even sure why he mentioned Reform here. This should be a straightforward announcement of a program pretty much anyone finds agreeable and positive. It reads as defensive to me.

    7. JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo on

Proof is in the pudding. He’ll be fine if people feel a positive difference within the next four years. He’s fucked if we don’t.

    8. Street_Adagio_2125 on

The established parties might be stale and underperforming but Reform will bring the country to its knees, they are completely clueless.

    9. Finally, a sign of life. Labour has to change the narrative. Stop following the populist twats and be a positive force for change. Starmer’s realising this way too late I fear though.

    10. Sir Keir today – “While Reform and the Tories talk down the country at every turn…”

Wes Streeting – the NHS is broken

Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood – the Prison Service is broken

Yvette Cooper (today) – the Asylum system is broken – [https://news.sky.com/story/labour-plans-to-overhaul-broken-asylum-system-13422826](https://news.sky.com/story/labour-plans-to-overhaul-broken-asylum-system-13422826)

Starmer – Too many in Whitehall being “comfortable in the tepid bath of managed decline”, or The NHS and the prison system are among parts of the state which are visibly broken, he warned. or The Transport system in the North is broken.

Only 2 months ago- Sir Keir Starmer has said the UK’s benefits system is broken – [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20wxq3q1x3o](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20wxq3q1x3o)

not sure what he’s done exactly for young people seems to me that frankly he is stirring civil discourse. and causing a bigger rift between right and left leaning people. sick to death of extreme left and extreme right views.

American politics have also influenced this

    12. Remarkable_Misty on

No keir your destroying the country food prices and anything else are sky high illegal immigration is out of control and your attacking oaps and the disabled

    13. Galcian123 on

Reform uk are the only ones who can save this country in my eyes Labour and tories have fucked it and won’t be getting a vote from me ever again

    14. Enough-Jackfruit766 on

      👏 👏 👏 Never a truer word Keir!

You’ve given the kids of the millions of Afghanis, Sudanese and Pakistani that you importing into this country a much “brighter future” than they would have had back home! Give yourself a massive pat on the back.

As for the native kids however, the prospects have NEVER been worse… but who cares about them? They’re white, and should be ashamed to even exist…

    15. EnvironmentalCap5156 on

we can’t trust the parents to feed their children so the state will do it for you. 👍

I’d rather you educated people correctly, paid them enough to live on and house them affordably. and let them make their own life choices. making them responsible for their actions.

    16. obeserunner on

Giving our kids a brighter future by continuing austerity, keeping the 2 child cap on benefits and increasing university tuition fees.

      Thank you Sir Keir.

    17. eudaimonia0188 on

Making the streets safer sounds like a good place to start.

    18. unbelievablydull82 on

Unless they’re disabled kids, in which case Labour will take away millions in support. Starmer is selling out disabled people.

    19. lsv-misophist on

I don’t know what this mutant right-wing version of Labour is but he could try fixing this country and not making it worse, which he’s currently done fuck all to achieve. Been too busy pissing about making the lives of the poor and vulnerable more miserable and removing our rights via his stupid online ID verification bill.

    20. bulldog_blues on

Some promising action from the government here, but does anyone find it deeply disturbing how much of Labour’s communication is centred around Reform? The way a party with all of 5 MPs has become so influential in such a short time is a concern.

    21. parkway_parkway on

“Were going to keep construction defacto banned to make sure your rent stays high and you’ll never own a home.”

“We’re going to keep the benefits and pensions systems out of control driving the country into a long term financial crisis which will destroy almost all public services and mean you cant retire”

“We going to fiddle faddle the tax system while major reforms are left undone. We’re going to flub almost any significant change”

“And if your kids do get to university they can pay through the nose for it and go on to a job barely above minimum wage whole costs spiral as they anxiously decide wether they can afford to heat and eat because we are incapable of deep reform.”

“But we’re going to give your child a free sandwich at lunch, which they only need because the cost of living crisis is completely out of control and we have no ideas on how to actually fix it, and for that, for our amazing governance, you may applaud now!”

    22. Cholas71 on

Well shut them up by doing something instead of talking about setting up a committee to look into sorting something out

    23. suihpares on

When keir? What is the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) for this “brighter future” for kids?

Incredible this man can tell what the future will bring, why is he merely Prime Minister and not Prophet for the World?

Nah. Can we please put this Puppet away and get some leadership for the first time in my life? Am 38 years old.

    24. Dry-Stick-7753 on

He talks and does nothing backed down to his own mps on benefits

    25. MDFHASDIED on

This guy couldn’t convince an Instagram “model” to take a selfie. Who the fuck is he trying to fool.

    26. GamerGuyAlly on

Brighter future by banning them from any adult conversations online, any support group, keeping the triple lock, offering no positive youth policies.

      Just more spin.

People want the truth. People are sick and tired of hearing this nonsense. The PR, party line. The question dodges. The suits.

      Just be real fucking people.

    27. Mental-Procedure5048 on

Great to see the 30 hours childcare being rolled out, happy that Labour have delivered that. Such a shame however that the 100k threshold still isn’t being looked at. Just another instance of single earner households being disadvantaged, and those that pay the most tax receiving fewer services.
