You can disagree that someone calling themselves a woman makes them a woman.

You can’t be calling for them to be assaulted.

      What a tit

Himself and McGregor are two cheeks of the one pestilential arse entitled, “Shitting away every single shred of respect the Irish public had for you”.

Seems like a joke to me. Being arrested for a joke is dystopian

I don’t like these comments but I don’t think people should be arrested for this sort of thing.

He is a gobshite of the highest order

      We disown him.

Son of a hater leads to hating. Seems generational. Huh.

The guy’s gone off the rails. Destroying his own life for this issue.

Fucking weird how obsessed he is about it.

    10. How weird to be so transfixed (pun intended) on this single issue, when so few of the population are trans. I can only imagine he has some skeletons in his closet.

    11. boolee2112 on

I no longer believe a word that comes out of this guys mouth. He sadly lost the plot years ago.

    12. FuzzyYellow9046 on

Why go single issue on this, when there are so many pressing problems in the world? I just don’t get it. Same for J. K. Rowling. She could have used her platform to do something useful for large swathes of humanity, but she went single issue on this.

What he’s done here’s pretty bad. But pretty sure he outed that terrible Reddit Pedophile trans mod they had a few years back.

    14. UniquePariah on

Freedom of speech doesn’t cover telling people to punch someone in the balls. It’s ridiculous to think it should be either.

    15. FitzCavendish on

We need some consistency about freedom of expression and incitement to violence.
If what Linehan has said here justifies arrest then expressions like “punch a terf” should be treated likewise.

    16. Omuirchu on

He’s also pretty shitty to other comedians calling them out for “racist” jokes.

I can’t imagine ever being this invested in hating something. To the point where I’m ruining my own life. What a pathetic man.

Imagine being one of the most beloved and successful comedy writers ever and dying on this stupid ass hill. Idiotic doesn’t even begin to describe it

    19. It’s really annoying when people try to impose their religion on others.

    20. Ceutical_Citizen on

I generally disagree with policing speech. However there are some obvious exceptions.

Inciting violence is a pretty clear one. Asking people to assault someone just based on them being in a certain space (regardless of any rules) is just that.

You don’t even need to agree with the (imho common sense) perspective that trans women are women to see this as inciting violence. Even a man in the wrong bathroom can’t be randomly assaulted for it. They might be forcibly removed, sure, but a violent assault is clearly off the table.

    21. JimmyBallocks on

No matter what your opinion is of other people or groups of people, you cannot expect to openly wish for or advocate for violence against them and expect to get away with it under the banner of free speech.

For example my personal opinion of Graham Linehan is that he’s a horrible cunt, that his writing is overrated crap, and that he physically repulses me. But no matter how much I despise him I would never wish for or advocate for violence against him. And that’s the difference.

    22. PensiveKittyIsTired on

What do you think “causing a scene” means? How soon before someone becomes violent during this, you think? That’s inciting violence. Stop playing dumb.

    23. imjustcoreyr on

He def sounds annoying and hateful af. It’s normal to have opinions—we all do. Very human. But, once your opinions begin to offend large segments of the population, destroy your career, make you a social pariah, and get you arrested, you have to ask yourself a couple of things:

      1. Is it time to rethink my opinion?
      2. Would it kill me to rethink my stance on this subject?
      3. Is it really worth it having such a strong opinion about a topic that has no impact on my life whatsoever
      4. Do I need to be so (aggressively) vocal about my views? Maybe I should just keep them to myself?

Personally, I feel that if it doesn’t involve you, you should keep your mouth shut—you don’t get a seat at the table. I have no business discussing abortion. It doesn’t concern me at all.

I think a lot of people have that inner troll that just enjoys pissing people off. Once they get a taste of it, they’re off to the races. Social media only helps to escalate that poison. Fucking hate social media.

This guy hath made a fool out of himself before the entire world. And seems to have no problem publicizing it. More embarrassment for him. Fool.

    24. ThereWasAnEmpireHere on

American lurker but uhhhh UK wtf are you doing these days?

Selfish reason to care but I hate how dumb laws somewhere else are used to justify bad politics here. Possible to support trans people and free speech! (And in fact a culture which accepts arresting offensive and “dangerous” people is not going to be safe for trans people!!)
