      Not to poo poo a fairly positive news story, although this is r/Ireland, so fairly par for the course, but why choose to go for free travel up to 9 years old? The next age group up as they approach teenage years are more independent and able to take the bus to school. If it were under 12’s then you have a sizable cohort that don’t need a lift to school, whereas you wouldn’t trust your under 9’s to get the bus alone, so a parent has to travel with them…and that’s probably not going to happen because that adult is going to drive to work unless the same bus route also serves the route to work. 

      It’s September,  we’re always reminded at this time of year that an enormous part of our traffic is made up of parents bringing their kids to school, which is unavoidable unless there are proper safe alternatives and this move seems a bit of a half measure.
