>PARIS — French politics are so paralyzed that the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron — an idea once only whispered in the corridors of power — is now being openly debated.
>But while Macron’s departure would be an earthquake on the European diplomatic stage, there’s increasing doubt it would fix the gridlock stalling the Fifth Republic.
>France’s problems appear to be deeper.

Maybe it wouldn’t but it would be better to not have a president not supported by around 70% of the population.

Parties need to learn to do politic in a different way. For decades the government party had absolute majority in Parliament, so there was no need to negociate for a coalition.
And since last elections, none of them wanted to negociate shit.

The French expect the state to provide for them. The result is that the country hasn’t balanced a budget for 40 years or so, looks like the chickens are coming home to roost.
Let them eat cake doesn’t end well.

2 years is a long time why would Macron choose to go without something prestigious lined up?
It’s going to be messy just like politics is/was messy in Italy or Belgium etc. Maybe the bond market can pressure things a bit but since everyone and their dogs hold French bonds the EU won’t be able to let things slide for long I guess.

Always the same, everybody say people and the the left don’t want to tackle the debt. This is false we are ready and the left (has created 2 times less debt than the right in our history) too. We just don’t agree with the liberal trickle down economy. Cutting social expenses and increasing pressure on worker while giving tax cut to companies and the wealthiest.

I bet Macron also wants to go away.
It just takes time to plan for his next career, most past presidents are lobbyists for foreign interests or banks.
The country is un reformable, most of the population is totally fine in bringing down the whole EU for things never changing in France.

Start doing something to ban russian propaganda and this uncertainty will go away in all europe. Go as far as banning Facebook and TicTok, and anything that follows in their footsteps. If you don’t have a mechanism to validate real users and filter fake news and propaganda, you’re banned from operating in the EU.

Politico is US based and most of its articles should be taken with a ton of salt.
Just remember – the EU is lost, dying, etc, etc. And that’s why everyone and their mother are trying to break it up.

French only react their own typical way against the oligarchy and their current failed and morbid economic system. It hurt more for them as they was more used to a strong “heavy taxes for good state welfare” system.
Now they just have the taxes, with less and less welfare parts. And all this taxes hit almost exclusively the middle class (low to high) while the wealthies contribute less and less in the society. So yeah, reaction.
This country remain rich, strong, smart and inspiring, no doubt on that.
