lol that industry must be in serious dire straits if they’re finally conceding to that

Fair play to the guy for having some initiative but I expect the complexities of responsible service in a setup like this will be incredibly difficult to control.

It honestly sounds like a good idea, if they can still bring in enough money. The rules seem reasonable and with everyone getting a locker you’re not going to have to worry about protecting your drinks all night.
I think as a student I would have preferred this over spending all night queuing at a bar and hoping whatever drink you’re ordering is not overpriced. Hopefully the business model works out for them.

At least he’s doing something other than moaning and seems to be trying to do it in a responsible way. Good luck to him.

Important context: People going to a dingy nightclub in Withington aren’t spending a lot on booze anyway.

Why not just sell your booze at a reasonable price?
Assuming he’s not tied, there’s nothing to stop him selling cans at offie prices.

It makes a lot of sense really.
Tickets £16 no more than £20. Max 8 cans/1 bottle of spirits bottle swapped to plastic plus £2 for your locker.
That’s £18 or £22 per person plus any drinks they actually buy. Spirits will probably need mixers so money from that as well.
Normal club would be free or £5 entry and we all know students get hammered before they go out. If they only bought 3-5 drinks then this is potentially making more profit because you haven’t had to shell out for the alcohol. The other thing as well is if you only have the money for 8 or however many cans and £16 you are more likely to go out because you know you’ve got all that you need for the night.
It will be interesting to see how this goes.

If a club stops serving alcohol and only allows BYOB, does that mean it no longer needs a license?

It is sad that the government and institutions absolutely refuse to do anything about the housing crisis to the point the whole of the economy and our productivity must suffer because their neoliberal heads refuse to increase supply (building houses) or reduce demand (reduce immigration, restrictions on who can buy property).
People cannot afford to go out and spend the way they used to when 30-50% of their paycheck is rent and on top of that businesses are closing much faster because most of them also have to pay rent and the highest electricity bill in Europe.
Neoliberals are keeping a dead system alive that does not help productivity nor growth

At the moment, lots of people who club just bring drugs in and then don’t pay for drinks as it is so much cheaper. Allowing people to bring their own booze means less drug use and an excuse for higher entry which lets the clubs make more money
