Every time you ask BAM, they will charge you more for (not) providing that particular information.

Is this the mostly cost over run and delivered late project in Ireland?

    3. johnfuckingtravolta on

Im not a BAM fan at all.

There has been no accountability for any individual Minister for the hospitals utter shitshow. They all presided over and done fuck all about it. Shes just the latest. No surprise whatsoever.

Its her job to ask them. They love stating the obvious.

    4. TurfMilkshake on

When will the hospital be at full utilisation is the next question and the next scandal

    5. >“Do you know what I think the onus should be actually on? Let’s ask BAM,” she said.

Any of us or any ordinary member of the public saying that is fair enough.

A minister saying it, fuck you. What process have you changed in tendering so this doesn’t happen again?

It’s not like BAM have acted in any way different to how they have in every other project they’ve ever done.

That is they appear to be the lowest bidder… with the highest costs for any changes from the original plan and they will be again in the future and if the government doesn’t make changes to either make sure every inch of a project is planned properly or there aren’t extortionate prices for changes we’ll all get fucked by them or someone else like them again.

She’s setting herself up for leader alright! Deflecting blame. She’s the Minister for Health ffs

Started in 2016, intended for completion in 2020 at a cost of €650 million.

Still not finished in 2025, having spent €2.3 billion.

      Fucking hell.

      The absolute _stink_ of disinterested hubris from these people;

      > “Do you know what I think the onus should be actually on? Let’s ask BAM,” she said.

Ask? I think we’re far past “ask” but then to FF & FG they’ve no incentive to ever do anything except the bare minimum.

      > The Fine Gael TD said the construction company has “made commitments to the Irish state” and they must deliver on those commitments, adding that the project is a “massive thing” for their reputation.

Oh well I’m sure BAM are positively quivering at the prospect of a sternly worded letter. The only reputation in tatters here is the IRish Government; arrogant fools who just coasted on the nation’s pediatric health being stalled by incompetence, while BAM essentially laughed all the way to the bank.

What are the odds they’ll be right back on a building site, on behalf of the government, about 6 months after the hospital actually opens (assuming the heat death of the universe doesn’t occur first)

FG are not a serious political party, this project stared in 2016 and there’s still no end in sight. Absolute chancers and gombeens.

You just know their are brown envelopes here and everyone is content to milk the public exchequer for all it’s worth

    11. caisdara on

You can learn a lot about Irish politics and public discourse from these articles. You can tell that the Soc Dem TD is furious that the Minister is blaming BAM.

    12. _LightEmittingDiode_ on

The government and the HSE are equally complicit in this clusterfuck. This government is quickly turning into a Tory-esque fuck the plebs and we aren’t even hiding it anymore.

    13. Otherwise-Window1559 on

We need an anti-corruption agency, so any person or business including civil servants who are in receipt of public funds, have to be accountable for their performance. If it’s a business such as BAM there should be fines for lateness and being a % over budget and if it happens it should stop them from ever being able to apply for a public contract again.

    14. Conscious_Handle_427 on

Absolute abdication of responsibility, it’s her job to hold them to account

    15. SoloWingPixy88 on

How can you not have a deadline date with penalties built into the contract for failing to meet said date?

    16. apocolypselater on

Thus absolving herself of any responsibility for a milestone project that currently sits within her portfolio…

    17. Internal_Sun_9632 on

BAM took advantage of the goverments poor tender process knowing full well thatthere was a major lack of a plan at the start, they win a contract and then get as much money as possible out of it while it lasted.

It has been such a shitshow that they are trying to lay all the blame on the goverment for the cock up, but really the blame is with both parties.

The HSE shouldn’t be giving vague tenders out to contracting companies and those companies shouldn’t be trying to ride the state for as much money as humanly possible.
