Wärtsilä is s big international player. Even summer job in entry position will look good on your resume.

Are those 6750 applicants for the Summer Power program for traineeships, or for the specific Management & Cyber Security trainee position? The former seems to collect many internships including the cybersecurity one.
I’m sorry if you haven’t got the results you were looking for… Unfortunately, it seems there are a bit less traineeships going around for this summer (although this is what I’ve read and heard from other companies), and the competition is ferocious, even though many of those 6k+ applicants allegedly would not be in the EU even and therefore would be almost automatically ignored.
Wärtsilä, just like KONE, ABB, and CGI, is a huge global technology/engineering company that employs people from several countries, so their job postings would reach even more people since they’re more recognisable, so the number could be inflated by that too.
Hang on there!

I think they’re referring to the entire summer power program and not IT/CyberSec specifically.
/edit: Their website says they had over 6700 applications in Finland for the summer power-program for 600 open positions.

It was not to this one specific position, I got the same response to my finance-trainee application. Wärtsilä probably hires dozens of summer trainees, so the real number of applicants per position is probably sililar to other large companies
