    1. That’s quite grim. Whole affair was a sorry mess and I suppose we can only hope their new government doesn’t have any such interest in claiming the islands as their own. Visited the Falklands not long ago and they were an absolutely lovely place, it’s sad how much blood has to be shed over them

Galtieri, amongst others, was a piece of work. Some of the atrocities committed on the orders of different Argentine leaders during the Dirty War were horrifying.

    3. Honestly, that would have been an absolute death wish for Galtieri if it’d played out. Small conflict into a full scale war, i’m sure of it. Reagan would have absolutely had boots in Argentina.

Were those CIA documents (that somehow no one else has noted for 43 years) based on actual intelligence of a concrete Argentine plan to kill hundreds of foreign civilians, or merely a contingency for the possibility they might? The junta were mad to invade the Falklands in the first place, but “murdering 100 Americans for no strategic reason and inciting huge retaliation” insane? Really?

Upon reading the headline, I jokingly thought to myself that it was another claim by Ricky Phillips, imagine my surprise opening the link…

Have the papers themselves been posted online?

As Mr Ricky Phillips is known to have made up stuff like this in the past, he claims that Argentina botched Rosario so bad (100 dead vs the 1 (one) agreed upon death) they had to burn piles of their own dead troops to cover it up, yet can provide no real tangible evidence, similarly, what evidence he *can* provide, has been well and truly debunked online. This site covers it very well: https://tfcdissected.blogspot.com/p/the-book-they-said-couldnt-be-written.html

I don’t support Argentina in any way, but it’s wise to be EXTREMELY sceptical of absolutely everything that man says given his history of unfounded anti-argentinian conspiracy theories.

Edit: here’s the document, or rather, singular web page [[Link]](https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/document/06698573) not much of a find as it’s been on there since 2019, but at least he’s finally found something real for once, shame it wasn’t someone else.

The American government was perceived by many in U.K. to be “sitting on the fence” on the subject of the invasion. It caused quite a bit of bad feeling.

You’d have thought these documents might have been released by the US when Galtieri’s government fell because they go some way to explain the initial US position.
