Yeh but the reason England is struggling is because immigrants, not all the extremely wealthy money!

The difference here being one deliberately set out to avoid paying the tax and got their affairs in order to make it acceptable, whereas the other did it seemingly accidentally and in good faith and will now pay the outstanding tax.
Which is why it makes sense that the one who did it deliberately is being punish… wait what?

Another desperate attempt to downplay what Rayner did, relying on the fact that people will only read the headline and not the article. Why can’t people just accept that what Rayner did was wrong without trying to deflect?
>his partner Laure Ferrari, 46, who shelled out almost £900,000 for the plush home. As her sole property, she would be liable for nearly £32,000 in stamp duty,
He has no interest in the property, he would have no reason to pay stamp duty. Unlike Rayner, who attempted to dodge it on stamp duty she actually owed. It’s not hypocritical, and it’s not breaking any rules.
This is the same as the article that keep getting posted to do with his limited company. It’s a completely normal thing to do, and it isn’t tax evasion.

Because his followers do not care, nor do his financial hackers. Reform voters do not want honesty, just like how they do not want free speech, they want to see others suffer. They love seeing the fallout from Labour dealing with an MP in a scandal (not just Raynor) but will happily ignore the numerous scandals if Reform councillors because of that. It is like how flying the flag with the intent to intimidate is free speech to them, but god forbid you criticise the Reform party’s policies in a local newspaper because that excuses being silenced. Farage is just playing into that.

If that’s true then he should face the same punishment however from the article:
“There is no suggestion that either Mr Farage or his girlfriend have broken any rules over the Clacton house.”
Seems like his girlfriend bought the house and he lives there with her.

Firstly I want to be clear I think Farage is a knob and reform is a scary prospect for the country.
But I’ve read the article and don’t see an issue or any actual evidence of an indiscretion or evasion or misdirection, just an assumption that he must have secretly given his well to do French politician wife the money.
The situation doesn’t appear to be comparable to Rayners.

I wonder why this didn’t come out sooner. Getting your spouse to be the sole owner so you don’t have to pay stamp duty on a house you effectively co-own.
Question is, is he using this house as justification for a Tax Payer funded second home in London?
>But in January, when asked if he had bought a home in Clacton, Mr Farage replied: “I have. Which is why you can see me out often on a Saturday morning buying the essentials. I’m out meeting lots of constituents on a regular basis.

Genuine question for Farage supporters, what could he do that would turn you against him?

Why would Farage pay stamp duty on a home that wasn’t his?
Rayner bought a holiday home and failed to pay the correct tax.
The two aren’t comparable.

I can’t stand Farage but this really is clutching at straws. He didn’t buy the house. End of discussion.

Nige ‘i bought a house in clacton’ farage? That Nige, no way would such an honest geezer put it in his partner’s name to save on tax…

This cow bought her council house and got away a fiddle to buy it, profited from flogging it, promptly stopped other people from exercising their right to buy, then got caught on this fiddle and left. That’s it, that’s her contribution, casually wrecking other families plans and leaving. Horrible toad.

I’ve not seen this reported anywhere else.
No other media outlet is reporting about Farage dodging tax, purposefully. They’re focussed too much on what Reform are saying at the conference.

He owns a house and his partner owns a house. Scandal?

He gets away with it because there’s an inbuilt presumption that he’s on the take and in politics for his own gain, unfortunately for her, Labour were campaigning on a ‘look at the corruption in the Tories’ basis which has meant that once in power they’ve been put on pedestals.
As Private Eye put it, “it’s a disgrace,” said one Tory slum landlord, “any self respecting MP should have 17 house converted into bedsits by now.”
