Høres ut som en god ting, kanskje det resulterer i færre republikanere som flytter over i det minste.
Men ja, det virker som om mange amerikanere har ett veldig “romantisert” bilde av flere land i hodet sitt.
tl;dr: American warmly warns “Americans” (a uniform troop of identical people with the same superficial understanding of the world as she, like “New-Yorkers”) about being disappointed that Norwegians (another uniform group of people with no variation) and Norway (a uniform concept that fits on a post-card) may not match her superficial fantasy that she assumes everyone has. At the end American still holds on to absurdly superficial generalizations that have now been ever so slightly adjusted through “doing Norway” for a few weeks. And genuinely believes that her impressions are, as they were before, completely correct.
Incidentally, this is – down to the specific details and mannerisms – how official politicians and appointees that turn up in Europe on behalf of the US foreign department behave, speak, and probably also genuinely think about the countries they visit. They live in a hotel, or a gated community, speak to servants in restaurants and look at guests on the street. Then they go home after a few months, or stay and live in a suburb for a year – and then they *know the soul* of the country they grace with their presence.
If you ever wondered how officialdom in the USA meticulously creates their view of how the world works, it’s like this. Tik-tok video strips that steer directly into the most childish stereotypes literally create the reality they perceive as true. And that fantasy world just never completely fades away. They tone it down sometimes, specially when they do this to countries with brown people – because that behaviour would mark them as rank racists. But when it comes to the last bastion of fantasy and fairy-tale of the north, like Sweden, Finland and Norway, or various Eastern-European countries – we are white, and so we get the unbridled generalisations (that are *positive*, right? We’re happy and naive and aryan, and lovable subjects to the Christian Monarchy full of oil).
