Minister needs to stop thinking anything Trump is doing is a good idea. Army ≠ police.

I can’t overstate how stupid this is; not only are military personnel not trained for police actions, the Belgian military also cannot be used against the citizens of Belgium by law. *At best* they can be used as security theater, but in any practical sense they would a useless and highly expensive performance as millions of Euros would have to be spent to house, feed and logistically support their presence in the capital despite the fact that even if they actively see a crime happenings, the only thing they’re legally allowed to do is call it into the police.

Is the increase in drug sales caused by MEP orgies or has Brussels always had a vibrant drug market?

Ah yes, European politicians are already using Trump’s playbook, this is a path to nowhere.

Once upon a time heroin, cocaine, cannabis were legal and available over the counter at low prices in many countries. No one was killing, stealing or engaging in sex work under duress to buy drugs. Prohibition is a cure worse than the disease. There are harm reduction alternatives to full legalization, e.g. prescription maintenance for existing users who cannot quit.

“It’s a beUtifUll idea, a very very bEUtufll idea for a great beUtifull country, it’s very smart. I could do that and I’m very very smart myself. Great day for Belgium president Mertz”.

Why not create a special police unit for that, or do they need to air raid narcos in Belgium?

This is not a direct copy of Trump, as the Brussels police head welcomes the support of the army, whilst the Chicago mayor disapproves the use of the army.

This is not an authoritarian crackdown from above, but a support measurement.

I don’t know enough about Belgium law to say anything about the practicalities of this, but power is distributed differently here than across the pond
