There are chatters that the conference is going to be delayed till next year. If this happens it’ll be some 6+ months since Sultana made her announcement. So much momentum will be lost.

Labour are in government for another 4 years, it’s really hard to take her seriously.

Always a fantasist is that one. Totally detached from reality.

“Labour is dead” she says, whilst trying to resuscitate a party that hasn’t officially launched yet…

I just don’t think this party makes it to the next election as a major force.

      >In her speech, she described Labour as a “dead party” that had failed to deliver but said **she had no interest in building a** “Labour party 2.0” or creating a **party that was just about winning elections.**

I guess they’ll win a ton of arguments though.

She may be right about Labour. But Your Party having a civil war over one of the lead figures being on the side of JK Rowling on trans women and declaring he is socially conservative (on abortion he is on the side of Jacob Rees-Mogg) before they got a proper name doesn’t make for a great start.

When will the UK have a trump? please for the love of everything good and holy? this country is fucked

And just like that, Starmer called a general election and dissolved parliament to make way for the nameless electoral juggernaut.

They didn’t print enough copies of State and Revolution to hand out.

I woke up in the middle of the night clutching my phone and read this thinking it was a story about New Zealand. Thank goodness it’s the UK. We only have 750,000 voters in total. Now I can’t sleep.

      >no interest in … creating a party that was just about winning elections

So why bother? Surely at that point you might as well just be an activist group then?

What more dead than they were in 2019 with Magic Grandpa in charge?

A reminder that Sultana has never had a real job and was parachuted into a safe seat that she had no connection to. She is as much a product of the political system as anyone you can name. She is my local MP and did not enjoy having to vote for bargain-bin AOC.

I said before that this ‘thing’ would implode by Christmas. I’m now changing that to ‘might actually have bothered their arses by Christmas’.

Get on with it, so we can watch it blow up and move on to more important stuff.

It’s so funny the number of people in this thread pretending this isn’t objectively true. Starmer’s Labour were never that popular, the top reasons why people voted for them were all because of the Tories and they won government with a historically low vote share. A year after the election 48% of those said they would vote for someone else next time, and they’ve only got *more* unpopular since then.

There just isn’t a big enough coalition of ‘sensible centrists’ in this country. People who can afford to be objective in choosing who to vote for – most people aren’t that lucky and it shows through their voting patterns and intentions.

    18. mickymoo45 on

If Starmer was smart he’d call an election ASAP , minimize the impact of corbyn and secure the seats of existing labour MPs.
      But he’s not that smart.

I don’t wish to be disrespectful, but if ZH thinks Your Party can stop Reform winning… she’s in for a rude awakening..

Labour is dead. Got that right. Shame a bunch of naive people voted for them anyway.
Corbyn’s endeavour will presumably hand victory to Farage, by splitting the left into the naive and the *ultra* naive.

    21. snagsguiness on

You know I was just think what the left needs now is for another party to split the vote.

I’m going to be looking forward to the infighting.

    22. davinist on

I can’t help but wonder about the policies of a party that, at the moment, has almost exclusively Muslim MPs.

    23. Don’t worry comrades! They’ll have the manifesto ready by 2034.
