I was told that this is also why diaspora political parties do not push for repatriation.

At first, they did, but many Armenians who tried to repatriate were killed and exiled. Obviously, they don’t want to remind Armenians that their encouragement to return in the past ended in this way for so many.

Nobody knew this would happen, and at first, Russia was able to hide what was happening from the diaspora effectively. They even pushed out propaganda that implied Armenian culture was being protected.
