The war has been going for eleven years. It’s well past time to stop buying Russian gas oil.

    2. Nukes-For-Nimbys on

This isn’t unreasonable even if its somewhat in bad faith.,

It’s utterly farcical we are still funding the russian state years into the invasion

    3. TrueRignak on

During the short press conference ater the Putin-Trump meeting, the former said the following :

      > Incidentally, when the new administration came to power, bilateral trade started to grow. It’s still very symbolic. Still, we have a growth of 20 percent. As I said, we have a lot of dimensions for joint work, and it’s clear that the U.S. and Russian investment and business cooperation have tremendous potential.

We also simulatenously learned that Exxon was having talk to to re-enter the Sakhalin-1 project.

Of course, we should stop buying Russian gas (and not just to replace it with US gas, but to reduce our consumption altogether), but it is rich for it to be asked by Krasnov.

    4. Im down. Start by shutting down the pipeline *running through ukraine*, then kill the rest of the seaborne gas. If you havent diversified by now, thats your own fault

    5. Pyrrus_1 on

The italian directory for gas procurement said that Italy and in general most of the EU hasn’t withdrawn any Russian Gas since January, it literally already the case.

    6. Select-Remote4343 on

EU demands that US will stop sucking up to Russia? Do we demand anything?

    7. DrAtomic1 on

Trump: “I’m really under pressure here now, I need to do something boss.”
Putin: “Just say that they will have to stop buying gas first before you can take action.”
      Trump: “Will do boss.”

      Facts:
      * 19% from EU gas still comes from Russia
      * a total ban is already planned for 2027
      * It’s mainly Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Belgium that are the culprits

    8. FuzzyYellow9046 on

The problem is the resistance to renewables, heat pumps and the like in Europe. Something Trump is not helping with.

    9. AlexRescueDotCom on

The most reasonable thing the TACO Administration has demanded. I would go as far and say that this is the only reasonable thing that they demanded.

    10. Not unreasonable in itself but Trump sanctioning Russia should not be relying on what EU does or does not do.

This is all just another excuse from Orangegutan, to not sanction Russia. He will just use Hungary and Slovakia as an excuse, that the whole EU is buying Russia’s gas, and so until that completely stops, usa wont put up any new sanctions.

This guy is such a huge russia’s bitch it really is amazing in itself, and the fact that americans aren’t capable of seeing that, speaks volumes about average IQ over the pond.

    13. ASK_ME_IF_IM_A_TRUCK on

“Just shut it off’ ignores the reality: some EU states had alternatives ready like LNG ports, renewables, nuclear so they could pivot fast. Others were locked into Russian pipelines with few substitutes. It’s not only politics, it’s about decades of infrastructure and how quickly real alternatives can be built.

    14. CedricTheCurtain on

Don’t buy their gas. Buy ours!

There’s the reason for that little tidbit.
Still better than buying Russian gas.

    15. LOL. I mean somebody at last slapped EU’s hypocrisy into its face?

    16. Proper-Tower2016 on

US: now buys Russian diamonds and eggs with 0% tariffs
US also: provide 0 aid since Donald
US also: EU don’t by Russian gas or we won’t do sanctions

Anyway.. asides from obviously US won’t do shit regardless of what EU does, totally agree, we should buy nothing from Russia.

    17. TheVenetianMask on

They can tell Hungary and Slovakia directly since they are so friends with them. In fact the US gets very upset when oil stops flowing to them because the pipeline is damaged.

    18. Bbbbbbbb1100 on

You can hate trump all you want, but this is more than reasonable and he is 1000% right.

We’re 11 years into the war and europe is still buying russian oil and gas.
On top of that, the trend the past 12 months is that eu countries are actually buying more russian oil and gas, and normalizing relations with russia (Allowing russian presentation back into films, sports, arts festival etc) as well as of course talks about resuming pipelines projects.

Even now, there’s not much heavy secondary sanctions against India or China, Russia’s main oil financier.

US placed tariffs and sanctions on India but Europe hasn’t. Europe has placed specific sanctions on Indian companies but it should be against India and China as a whole. The sanctions on specific oil companies are easily circumnavigated through shadow fleets, which again, europe sanctions but it just becomes a cycle that’s still profitable for all three of these countries.

Whereas a general tariff and sanction is more effective in hitting their economies

    19. Adorable-Database187 on

Normally i’d go outside to check if trump came in soaking wet and told me it was raining.

But its hard to disagree with this hot take 11 years into Russia’s invasion.

    20. Wonderful-Ad8206 on

While we should eliminate all forms of dependencies from Russia, this just feels like an excuse by the US to not sanction Russia while they said they would… Just an easy way out

    21. kliptonize on

“Orange Crime Boss demands EU buy more US gas if it wants ‘protection’ ”

What, you all thought this was about Russia? What other major natural gas provider would gain from this, can you think of any?

    22. It’s the logical thing to do, but it’s never gonna happen as long as there’s putin pawns in the EU

    23. TianZiGaming on

Not too different from the NATO conversations back in 2017.

    24. Independent_Rip_9442 on

Why US gets to decide for the whole world from where to buy?

    25. The most reasonable demand to come out of the white house in a while

    26. Hekke1969 on

Europe demands US president stops blowing Russias president

    27. Why US decides that EU cannot fund Russia in invading Ukraine?

    28. praetorian1111 on

Obviously. Which countries are the ones still doing this, besides his friends orban and Fico?

    29. greenpowerman99 on

Great news. Now Fico and Orban have to suck it up because Trump says so!

    30. Objective_Mousse7216 on

And when EU is totally dependent on US energy, the US has zero incentive to end the war, infact it pays them to sell energy and weapons into an endless war with Russia.

    31. Kuriatko22 on

In other words “If you want new sanctions on Russia, buy US gas instead”

    32. medievalvelocipede on

What sanctions on Putin would that be, because the US doesn’t have any that’s relevant.

    33. Heringsalat100 on

      Based.

It is ridiculous that we are still financing Russia’s war.

    34. rtrs_bastiat on

Lol I don’t believe Trump will put new sanctions on Russia for a second

    35. Uwibamie on

As much as I hate agreeing with the US, this one thing I do agree with them on. We can most likely find alternatives, albeit a bit more expensive. So get a move on EU, get rid of ruzzki oil so we can finally get them to stop killing Ukrainians since clearly we’re just funding it at this point.

    36. Beyllionaire on

I can’t even believe that some EU countries still buy from Russia.

    37. butwhywedothis on

LMAO. Hypocrite US administration will sanction the whole world but will keep doing business with Russia and of course no sanctions for Russia.

EU needs to stand strong in negotiations with this pedo administration, cause the more EU bends they will keep banging it from behind.
