Well, well well. Where to start? I am guilty!! Nostalgiaaaaaaaaa!!

Houses/designs our grandparents would have enjoyed and raised generations of families with ample living space, stood the test of time, massive gardens and function. You can tell the people who made these buildings had attention to detail and care put into them. A time when society was respectable and culture was thriving.

Why do you think almost everyone around the world is absolutely is fascinated by our period dramas and pay a bomb to spend time in Cambridge, Oxford and cotswolds et al?!

The bog standard cut and paste off the brochure as the next Persimmons, Taylor Wimpey et al plot 250 gets sold for £1 million. Made out of materials that wont last 50 years, corners cut so much that the snagging list is longer than the great wall of china, no parking, gardens made from astroturf (if there even is one to begin), ability to spy on ones neighbour as every property backs onto each other so i can know when mr & mrs is having too much fun in the bedroom, and the rooms subdivided enough times to pretend that it is bigger than it actually is? Like how many times can you cut an 80sqm home than traditionally was a 2-3 bed house into a 5 bed?! Prisoners in Europe probably get use of more floor space!! Probably…..

Ok rant over but hopefully get my point. I am happy that Gen Zers are enjoying NT properties because this is what we should aspire to, there is a lot of attention to detail in these houses (albeit i know back then some were likely obtained through the slave trade et al) but generally i think we’d be better if we’d at least aim for smaller versions of these estates!
