Russia never left, unfortunately. The west is addicted to the “idea” of Russia. This war is a momentary blip that pop culture would love to ignore.

There are clearly too many Russophiles out there who still can’t bring themselves to see past the Russians’ nominal Christianity and accidental origins in Europe, albeit its swampy northeastern fringe. For these Russophiles, it just cannot be that such a “Christian” and “European” people have been committing a *jihad* in real time against “apostate” Catholics and Protestants (not to mention Orthodox Ukrainians), and these “apostates” supposedly secular side under the infantile meme of ~~Europe~~ ***Gay****ropa.*

It would clearly shatter too many Westerners that such people are *far* more akin to the butthurt neckbeards of ISIS than European Christians while having the shamelessness to think of themselves deep-down as guardians of the [“Third Rome”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow,_third_Rome) and/or stand-ins for “true” Christianity via nominal adherence to Orthodoxy, albeit a [sect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Orthodox_Church) that’s far removed from the cradle in southeastern Europe.

Not for me, or that I’ve seen.

They’ve been laying this groundwork for quite some time though.

I have purged anything Russian from my life as much as possible. It’s an interesting challenge though, because so much of the good stuff is actually Ukrainian and just labeled as Russian.
Anyone, including my mother, who doesn’t dislike Russia for what it is or supports cutting off aid for Ukraine gets a verbal diatribe from me.
